yikes,

so many dates in a row, makes me wonder if this tour will be
much of a .... how do i put it, ... pre-planned and straight
shooting live event?

i.e., no onchores deep into the night, no after parties for
sean/rob to attend, just pack up and get ready for the next
night

...unless they are machines,

we'll see i guess,
just crazy to see that many dates in a row
($)..($)

Have you ever seen ae live? You stand in the dark and listen
to things stuttering. Maybe they're as bored of it as I am
and they want to get it over with as quickly and painlessly
as possible.

For me the best way to listen to ae is lying on my back
wearing headphones. In concert situations one tends to get
stepped on doing that sort of thing.

i want to get murdered by 15hz cycles ...

headphones cannot do that.

would be cool if we're the only ones besides rob and sean,
maybe theyll let me tough some knobs

I read in an interview from a while back that all they want
to do in a live event is show people music they normally
wouldn't be able to hear, and hate people looking at them.

Then again, I recently read that they improvise live, so I'm
not sure what to think.

theres no way i could listen to ae for a few hours a day
every day, sean and rob must get sick of one another...

You haven't heard any live shows? Their great if the sound
system is up to snuff. If not, you cant tell'em apart from
Merzbow.

Try a pair of Sony MDR-7506 cans - they're industry standard
in studios. Often late at night I have to take them off and
make sure my speakers aren't on because they create the
illusion that the whole room is shaking.

I think concerts in general are boring. I remember once when
Mr. Lif was on; he was trying to get the crowd hyped up by
freestyling and what not. I just stood in front and stared
directly at him. Same with rock shows. I just turn around
and people watch which gets boring quick. If only I could
plug some earphones into AE's soundboard and wear a
blindfold!

they normally don't "play songs".

they have prepared parts that they can use on an evening,
but these are new things, apart from the records.

and they improvise a lot.

at least, this is what they did on the confield tour.

offline fleetmouse from Horny for Truth on 2005-04-07 09:37 [#01555803]

Oh, they're relatively cheap. Less than 200 canadian. But
you have to go to a music store to get them - they don't
sell them where they sell consumer grade stuff.

offline fleetmouse from Horny for Truth on 2005-04-07 09:39 [#01555807]
Points: 18042 Status: Lurker | Followup to qrter: #01555801

But that's the problem - you only hear it once and sometimes
an ae track can take days or weeks to come into focus -
especially I imagine if it's not arranged and post-produced
as much as an album track. So you only hear the surface and
you'll never completely understand or appreciate it.
Frustrating! Like getting a 50 millisecond glimpse of a
sonnet.

this is true
but when the sound is hitting you from fuckin big speakers,
you tend to get with the groove regardless if your mind
processed it yet or not
your body just goes with the flow

live is irreplaceable

I don't think it will be much of a problem.

being at a live event with a lot of people, thing actually
happening there - it's a wholly different beast than
listening to a cd.

simple fact is that the live thing has so much more elements
that can vary and influence the experience. that sounds
disgusting, but it is true.

in short: live performances are not only about the music.

I know I stand in line until you think you have the time
to spend an evening with me
and if we go some place to dance I know that there's a
chance you won't be leaving with me
then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place and have a
drink or two
and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid
like "I love you"

I can see it in your eyes that you despise the same old lies
you heard the night before
and though it's just a line to you, for me it's true and
never felt so right before

I practice every day to find some clever lines to say to
make the meaning come true,
but then I think I'll wait until the evening gets late and
I'm alone with you.
the time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get
red and oh the night so blue.
and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid
like "I love you"

the time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get
red and oh the night so blue
and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid
like "I love you...."
"I love you...."
"I love you...."
"I love you...."
