Well it could be good in certain instances. Like if an
attacker was trying to rape/murder someone. Then again there
will be many deaths due to stupid drunken bar fights

I don't see how this is different from regular concealed
carry which Florida already has. I mean, I thought the
assumption was that if you're going to carry a gun, that
it's to use for protection. right?

dumb name for a law, though

There is no connection between having a gun and shooting
someone with it, and not having a gun and not shooting
someone with it. And you'd be a fool and a communist to
think so.

Maybe they'll wipe themselves out, all of them, one by one.
Like a domino effect.

"Florida Governor Jeb Bush says the bill is a good
anti-crime measure."

He's bright.

Ah, they were running out of ways to eliminate black
voters... Expect jumpy Republicans to start getting itchy
trigger fingers just before the next election.

And, as r40f has said, screams of "They're coming right for
us!"

compared to seattle, florida seems like a completely
different country, existing in a different century.
i'll just stay here in the safety of my urban utopia.

man, just driving north from seattle about 40 minutes is
like driving to a red state. suddenly it's all 'cowboys'
and pickup trucks and country music and Bush supporters and
rifle racks and coon huntin' etc...

Sounds like a good plan to me. In a country like America
where the majority of criminals are packing, you really
don't want to have to "try to escape" before resorting to
using your gun. Picture the scene; guy pulls a gun on you,
you are currently legally obliged to try to escape,
ie run away (and open yourself up to being shot in the back)
before you can use your gun? Where's the sense in that?

Sure, there are downsides to it, but I see it as a good
"protective" law that favours law-abiding citizens. It could
lead to some interesting court cases where someone not
directly threatened uses their gun to defend another party.
Eg, someone stumbles across a "rape in progress" in an an
alley, shoots the rapist. They weren't acting in self
defense... If the person in that example was innocent, it
could lead to vigilanteism.

As Anne Coulter famously said, "If everyone carried guns,
Columbine wouldn't of been as bad- they'd of killed one or
two kids, then someone else would of shot them."

I'm generally anti-guns, but if I lived in a country where
they were common, I'd certainly have one. Personally, I'd
prefer it if there were no guns and we carried swords, but
I'm pragmatic and accept that's never going to happen.
