I think it's pointless really. Labels are what cause racism in the first place.

BLACK has a history of racism which they broke free of. They have something to be proud of. They have their BLACK identity. This is their history and it is centered by the term "BLACK" which means it's OK to associate it with stuff.

well if we had 'white music' what could we associate it with?
If the world was taken over by an evil dictator who also happened to be black and decided that all white people should die and then they killed most of us but then we survived. Then in the future we could have 'white stuff'
I barely know what I'm talking about. I'm just memorising stuff from a druken conversation I had once

It's sort of like how "Rage Against the Machine" was really a not-so-subtle cover for, "Give Your Money to The Machine In The Name of Anarchism"
So, the skin colour is used as a sales argument ?

I guess it could be seen as that but some people may not be aware of it because they have become so used to hearing "black" this and "black" that. but yes, essentially it is black music for black people

if someone mentions 'black music' to me i instantly think "blues". everything else (e.g. jazz, reggae,etc...) is a development from the blues [slight exaggeration, but hopefully you can see what i mean].

genre is irrelevant, black music is music by a black artist, or by a group with mostly/all black members. simple as that.

I thought the (politically) correct term was, "Music of Black Origin", hence, the "MOBO" awards.
It makes sense, because even if something starts as "black music", eg reggae, rap, etc. it quickly becomes music that people of all ethnicities make.
Afrikka Bambatta famously pointed out that "the music has no colour", because even hip hop and rap have used breaks from "white" music like rock. It all borrows from other genres, anyway, so the idea of some "pure" genre that stands alone, untainted by other styles, is ludicrous (or, if you prefer, "ludacris" ;-).

Techno is a good example. Both Afrikka Babbatta and the Belleville Three were inspired by Kraftwerk. Not to mention the influence of Stockhausen, John Cage and other radical composers. Everyone burrows from everyone.
