Im over 25, thought i keep ya updated, I'm going to live
together with my girlfriend as of this Saturday (2 April).
I'll be moving to a new city as well (Utrecht; qrter, let me
buy you a drink one night)

Any tips, advice? Big mistake? Eternal joy? etc.

In short, what are your experiences.

anything at all would suffice, really.

I mean, as 'go for it lad' for example

Figure out the division of labor/chore responsibilities
early on. I made a thread about this when I was your age and
fleetmouse gave me that advice and I always remembered it
and it made my life so much easier.

Also, be prepared to never have sex again.

Okay I'll remember the first bit but I'll pretend I never
read the second bit (until I talk to you again in a few
months maybe...) :D

Do you still have a link to that particular thread?

when you start getting frustrated, talk about it.

cause, it will end up manifesting its self one way or
another if you don't. usually in a way that isn't good.

No, but I've been looking for it. Everyone was very
supportive and there was plenty of good advice in there. A
real shining moment for xlt.

I moved in and have been quite happy for 2 years now. No
real complaints.

Mozeltov!

Thanks! I haven't been active on here for a long while, but
I have kept up with everyone else's posts, and that 's why
I'm asking you lot. I know you are an intelligent bunch that
can can provide me with honest advice.

I don't expect to have any REAL complaints, either. It's
give and take, as they say, isn't it?

I moved in with my girlfriend last year, its extremely
difficult. Girls are like attention leeches. The
relationship inevitablybecomes a lot different too, after
you move in together. It seems like it won't, but it does.
Living with your girlfriend is unnecessary unless you're
having children. I am extremely glad my girlfriend is
moving out later next month.

the end

I quite enjoy living with my girlfriend. I never get lonely,
and there is always somebody there to lounge around with. I
have had one bad experience living with a girl, and three
good ones, so as long as you two set your boundries and
stick to them (and make sure the other knows when they are
about to cross the boundries) then you should both be happy.

those girls have been great.

my main advice is to get a lock put on your bedroom door.
that way, when she's running late for work and realizes
she's forgotten her work shoes or something of the sort and
has to turn around and go back to the house to grab them,
she doesn't catch you jerking off because she hasn't been
"doing her job" (eye roll here).

When you feel like going down the pub/coming home late, tell
her so she doesn't worry, but make sure you tell
her, not ask permission, e.g.

"Hi love, just to let you know, I'm going for a ride with
the lads, I'll be back about 11."

Not, "Hi Love, I was wondering if it'd be okay for me to go
to out for a ride tonight? I'd probably be out till 11, but
I could be back earlier if you want".

Adopt the latter technique and she'll thnk she owns you and
have a go when you try the former at a later date. Do the
former from the onset and she won't have grounds for
complaint.

Similarly, if you think she's ever being unreasonable, say
so, don't apologise/do as she says, just for a quiet life,
even if she turns on the waterworks. You might have to
"smooth things over" and comprimise in the work place/with
flatmates etc. normally, but you should be able to be honest
with your partner.

If she wants to do something/go somewhere you're not
interested in, just say so. Don't mess around, just say so,
"No, I really don't fancy that." Don't go along and be a
mopey git/resent her for it. Similarly, don't drag her to
IDM gigs if she hates the stuff.

Naturally, let her behave in a similar way; don't expect her
to be a model stepford wife, let allow you to do as you
please.

Thanks all. I've read some honest stuff in the comments
above :)

I'm really looking forward to it but I know I'm going to
miss my student life... At least for a while...

Woofer + Ceri: Actually she is coming with me to see
Autechre :) She's quite ok with my electronic music. I keep
telling her 'this next song is going to be really weird,
just so you know' and she'll like the track. I made her an
Ae mix cd when I was still in the wooing phase (worst idea
ever but it turned out just fine).

Glad many of you love living together, hope we'll manage
alright, too.
