i have yet to hear anybodies music that has used maxmsp
almost exlusively and can show their patches as proof

anybody who claims to use it is all talk ;-)
( enticing maxmsp music makers to prove themselves )

Autechre use it, as does Richard Devine. I can really hear
that Devine's music must be using custom programmed plugs
and stuff.

whenever i look at that stuff, max/msp

im like, why would you use that unless you were an absolute
audio perfectionistic

like i know that autechre use max/msp, and i mean its
unbelievable the results they get w/ it if the assumptions
im making on how they operate it are correct - but if you're
not going to get incredible sounding shit like that then why
are you even gonna try? seems like theres no excuse with the
high level of customization and control that you don't have
clean sounding beats and a song that i would want to listen
to over and over again

yeah just people applying to the fad. its cool i guess if
theyre just messing with it

say man check out this beat i made the other day

pulls out the laptop (or if you're at their crib they walk
you into the "studio" = their bedroom) with this fancy
looking program and you listen to it and it sounds like some
ugly crap, so youre just kind of sittting there urinating
yourself wondering why they went to the trouble of learning
all of that crap to make the worst music youve ever heard

its funny... some of the best shit and worst shit I have
ever seen / heard was done in max/msp.

there really is not much of a middle ground by way of that
environment.

I think its the learning curve... starts off steep and then
when you understand the fundamental elements, everything
else starts to make sence. If you are programming patches
with only half an understanding of what you can do, you end
up with shoddy sounding patches. But when you know very well
what you are doing and how to do it, it all falls together.

hence, that amazing generative autechre patch that was used
to write Liccflii on EP7 and was under 60k. 30+ patchers
and abstractions, dsp out the arse, and bad to the friggin
bone. When I think they most prob. do the same thing for
each track they write/release, my brain begins to rattle...

i couldnt be bothered by this Max/MSP threads, but i am now
by your post. its not the first time when i see you
complaining. instead of shitting on others "studios", which
actually are "bedrooms" ( haha, if thats funny ), you should
be happy that more and more ppl are tryin to make some
sounds, coz maybe one day you will like some of them. or,
whats maybe better to say, that wont apply to you, as you
cant see the point of making useless "bedroom" shitty
sounds, is that right ?

ghehe, well I didn't make it in max..or msp...or max/msp.
I made it in FL. all the sounds you hear are the sounds I
made myself though (from scratch). I make lots of rythem
patches in absynth, record those and import the samples into
FL and start clicking. here's another one. it's a re-edit of
the first one

I wish I could work with max/msp though. would make making
these kind of tracks allot easier. my fingers hurt from all
the clicking I have to do in FL. I started fiddeling with
reaktor again 2 days ago. I can make some sille sounding
synths but that's about it.

matter if you wrote it from scratch or just use someboy

here's a track where i was goofing around with a max/msp
patch i made. i ran it into ableton live thru rewire and was
jamming to some cheesy drum loops that come with live.

the patch basically repeatedly triggers a sample, on beat.
you can specify how many times per beat it should trigger
the sample. this rate will smoothly ramp to the value you
specify. you can use this to make effects that sound similar
to a coin that is dropped on the table, and is coming to
rest. or perhaps a ball bouncing or something like that. or
you could do snare rushes or whatnot.

anywho why not have a listen?

ps max/msp is extremely fun to play around with.. highly
recommended. i feel like an audio mad scientist or a kid
playing with lego or something when i play around with it.
