To all the sexy and fabulous musicians here:
What was your worst hardware or software buy for music making?
It can be stuff that everyone else loved but didn't do it for you, or just plain crap stuff.
Mine would have to be the Proteus2000 sound module by Emu. Awful sounds, awful interface, and a crappy fx system.
Or, any version of Cubase. I've been a happy Cakewalk Sonar3 user for some time, but I decided to try Cubase and see what all the fuss was about. IMHO, it's far too fiddly to use and just completely lacks Sonar's use-friendlyness and efficiency.

it's great if you like spending $20 on a tool with parts that aren't made to properly fit the jobs they're supposed to do.

My Casio FZ-1 sampler. Not exactly a bad purchase, but it just got replaced so shortly by a Kurzweil K2000R. I did use the Casio alot, but for the money and drive to pick it up, it didn't quite live up to the expectations. We drove to this used gear shop in Malmö and there were loads and loads of analog synths, Yamaha CS-15's, Moog Prodigy and Prophets. A sweet Prophet-5 that I couldn't afford at the time. This was shortly before the real analog craze started.
Sucker is me.
