Destroyer

Ok, I know for a fact that there are at least a few
people on this board who have excellent taste in music, so
I'm bringing up the "band" Destroyer. Who else is into this
shit besides me? I've only heard one of their releases -
This Night - but I totally have fallen for it. Anyone
familiar with this or their other records? The guy at my
local cool record shop loves all of their albums, so I just
picked up this one pretty much at random.

yeah he (dan bejar) is so awsome,
infact he played last night here with frog eyes
i couldnt see it but ive seen him with frog eyes a few other
times and its pretty great.
you should totally check out 'your blues' (newest album)
as soon as possible.
in fact if you want i can send you the leading track right
away, i swear to god it will blow you away

Great, but I have a dial-up connection because i am
jobless and poor. Actually I was probably going down to the
record shop tomorrow and pick something up. "Your Blues" is
the ep with Frog Eyes yes? I dig Frog Eyes new one, and the
cat at the shop was trying to get me to purchase that one
and The Fiery Furnaces "Blueberry Boat" a few weeks ago. I
went with the Furnaces (and I'm way glad I did because I
fucking LOVE that record), but I may get "Your Blues". What
about "Streethawk", or one of the other ones instead?

Which do you prefer? I here that "This Night" is a bit of
an arberation in the Destroyer cannon.

sorry i was watching arrested development

1) your blues was a full length album that came out maybe a
year ago, it is bejar with some other band members but a lot
of it has like midi stuff on it (dont at all be put off by
it, its is fucking amazing) which is kind of different from
anythign they had done previously.

2)for the tour for that album, bejar toured with frog eyes,
having them as his backing band, and they also opened for
him.

3)at some point they decided that they should re record
about half the album because the songs had sort of reworked
themselves over the tour, and while they are the same songs
they are quite a bit different from the recorded ones

4) this re-record of the songs is the one you refer to as
'the frog eyes one' and i think the real title is 'notorious
lightning and other works' it is really good but i would
suggest digesting it after the realy your blues album..... i
think it would be better to hear it that way and its the
natural progression anyways.

5) i like this night. the first one i heard was 'streethawk:
a seduction' which i think is arguably the best of all the
destroyer albums ive heard, but 'your blues' is just so
magnificant at some points that im not sure if i could say
that i like streethawk better then it.

anyways

Great, thanks. I like "This Night" so much I'm sort of
afraid that i won't like the other more typical examples of
Destroyer as much, but I'm sure I will. Listening "This
Night" now (as I have been since I first posted this topic).
I just hope Canada keeps pumping out the stellar bands and
albums (Arcade Fire, Frog Eyes, Destroyer, etc.)

you should maybe check out the pink mountaintops/black
mountain records. two side projects of steve mcbean (again
from vancouver) that released albums in the last year or
so.

another canadian band which you may or may not like but who
i think are probably the most amazing band i know of are
montreal's the dears. in the last little while
theve started to get more known but theyve been excellent
ever since their first real album 'end of a hollywood
bedtime story' 5 years or so ago

Thanks for the heads up on those records, I'll be sure
sure to check them out. If you haven't actually heard The
Fiery Furnaces "Blueberry Boat" yet, I have to recommend
that you at least give that one a listen - my favorite album
of the decade so far. Also a big fan of Animal Collective.
Go to freewilliamsburg.com to see a picture of a concert I
was at in Williamsburg Brooklyn a few weeks ago. Amazing
amazing show. I'm the indistinct guy in the light blue
sweatshirt on the right-hand side having the religious
experience.

I thought this was going to be about the Alec Empire album,
wich sounds so awfully dated today. Enlighten me, whats this
music all about?

I'm actually more into Akron/Family and Antony and the
Johnsons these days. Picked up the new one, but I haven't
listened to it much yet. Dlyanesque maybe?
