what's your kHz cutoff?

I did some unscientific testing and discovered I can't hear
frequencies above 17 kHz.

Maybe it's my equipment - but I was listening with MDR7506
headphones and running my sound card at 96 kHz so I doubt
it.

What's your cutoff?

I remember from that thing when I was going to be drafted to
the army and shit and they did this hearing test... I could
hear uo to 22, but I was missing some at around 17khz on the
right ear...

however, since then I've gotten tinnitus on the right ear as
well, so I'm not too sure...

22 kHz is astounding - are you a bat?

yes, I am...

noone really got to know the results other than
"satisfactory," you are in the army, but the guy told me
that I had a pretty good hearing except for the missing
stuff around 17...

they probably wanted my amazing hearing for their army, but
I said fuck you, and took civil duty instead! hahaha!

I had a weird thing when they did this at school where I
stopped being able to hear the tone and then towards the
higher frequencies I started hearing it again and could hear
it better and better as it got higher. Very strange. I can't
remember what it was though.

i don't know. is there some web page with sounds where you
can test this?

oh wait... i went to see three ear doctors last year and
this summer, i probably still have some
curves/diagrams/things... i'll see if it's shown there.

giginger: same as me.. missing some in the middle and then
continuing up...

uzim: just search the web for tone generator, but you'll
have to have stuff that can play it back...

A little less than 19 khz, apparently. What do I win?

well, the capacity to hear frequencies up to 19 kHz. which
is good i guess.

PS: how was the concert last night? : )

No wait, I can actually hear up to 19600 Hz. Excellent.

11hz with the volume all the way up. unless my computer is
lying.

oh, the lowest was just normal. 20hz or something like that.

offline dariusgriffin from cool on 2005-03-05 10:00 [#01522385]

Lowest: 18-19 Hz

Left ear: 19900 Hz
Right ear: 19400-19500 Hz

That difference is quite annoying, makes me feel like my
right ear is fucked.

And yes, I thought the Slint concert was really awesome, and
I also saw Monade, Laetitia Sadier's side-project. And it
was awesome.

I think you need to make sure you're not hearing aliasing or
sympathetic vibrations. The fact that people say they stop
hearing the tone then start hearing it again as it gets
higher makes me suspect they're hearing aliasing or
artifacting or something.

Hmm, i'm using the tool in audacity to generate sine waves,
and it only goes up to 20000hz. Which is wrong anyway,
because it sounds absolutely nothing like 20000hz from an
oscilloscope. Which i know because i can't hear it. Which is
sad.

Moral: don't use Audacity.

don't use a computer to check your high freq sensitivity :D

it's hard to really hear bass that low

most people are "hearing" vibrations, yes.

too bad the sound spectrum in that track is empty. i've
always been a fan of silence myself.

hearing down to 11hz?
up to 32khz?

hmm, i 100% doubt that.

i have steep curve around 17khz (15khz makes my head
explode).
i played drums years ago so it might have caused that. and
of course i was in artillery while in army :)

after 20khz my speakers start to make weird feedback (great
sampling material)

computers suck at this.

there's loads of bullshit frequencies above 15kHz. i
seriously doubt anybody really hears > 18k

yeah i don't know why people would be using computer
speakers to test this (i didnt even realize people were
doing it till just now >_<

let alone to hear < 20 Hz; > 20khz

babies, maybe, but not grown humans ....
