so far i think the chances to get caught are as big as the chances to win the lottery... downloading mp3s are like lottery in reverse: if you don't get caught, which happens 99.9999% of the time so far, you win the mp3, if you get caught well... you're fucked.

i guess that they hire hackers to find out who downloads what...
This is the thing that would make sense... Or they just go in there as normal members, and see who does what... that's how people have been caught... I think we don't know half of what they can do.

i'm dirtying my double casette decks with that shit. its tdk or memorex only. anyway, theres a huge scratch on side 3 which has got worse by me desperately trying to stop it from jumping on here comes the rain by the eurythmics by pressing the stylus down whilst the record was playing.

they ask the internet access providers who have the most data traffic among their customers... and then they take a look at what the transferred data is... at least it's one of their methods, or so i've heard.

The recent UK sting was only for people sharing over 9000 tracks. Assuming on average there are 10 tracks an album, they have downloaded more than 900 albums. Albums cost in the region of £10 each therefore they have downloaded £9000+ worth of albums. They paid compensation of £2,200. Even when compared to legit music download services they are getting the tracks on the cheap.

you're luckier for that in the UK then : )
in france if you get caught you're REALLY fucked... you can commit suicide if you're poor and got caught, really. no one had to pay that much so far, but it can go as far as € 300 000 and 3 years of prison. they're just completely crazy.
