Fuck I have had it with computars. I have been learning Max to build myself a non-linear live composition and performance system... it's hard to describe but I want to get away from any kind of single timeline application - I find Cubase especially soul-crushing in that regard.
So I gave Ableton Live a second chance and it seemed to do everything I wanted - I can even trigger things sort of off-time if I want to.
Then I find out the shit cock bastard is using 80% of my CPU to run a few tasks that any other DAW software would do in 15%! I checked on the forums and yep it's a known flaw in v 4.x - known but not openly acknowledged by Ableton.
Shit piss damn cunt bastard doody. I was ready to throw down the $$ to buy it too.

bummer... i wish i knew the solution if only to be able to hear the music you make with an apparatus such as this. have you thought about setting up one of those hamster-operated midi things? i hear they're really catching on.

at this point are you waiting for someone to ask 'gee, what is a hamster operated midi device?' at which point you post a link to that site

You could be a messiah if you can answer 1 question for me - can I pass any message to a seq object to quantize or semi-quantize the loop length, or do I have to build a rube goldberg contraption for this full of packing and unpacking and colls and the sharp metal teeth and the biting and shoving?

here's my "cheat sheet" for working with max:
As you walk past cobbler shop, hook (A) strikes suspended boot (B), causing it to kick football (C) through goal posts (D). Football drops into basket (E) and string (F) tilts sprinkling can, (G) causing water to soak coat tails (H). As coat shrinks, cord (I) opens door (J) of cage, allowing bird (K) to walk out on perch (L) and grab worm (M) which is attached to string (N). This pulls down window shade (O) on which is written, "YOU SAP, MAIL THAT LETTER."
A simple way to avoid all this trouble is to marry a wife who can't write.

why do you want to get away from a "single timeline application"?
won't the net-effect when people hear it still be a "single timeline"?

Monochronicity is an illusion perpetrated upon the bourgeoisie by powerful forces of bordeom. Time actually branches and whirls fractally and I want this to be represented in my music.
An improvising Jazz quintet, for example, actually exists in four major and six minor dimensions. The truly oppressed only see one dimension of the music at a time as it passes through their z-plane creating the illusion of movement along a single timeline.
An application that facilitates polychronicity will be difficult to program but utterly worthwhile in the end(middle(beginning)).

that sounds mighty fine and quite boring, but I think that almost noone will actually be able to hear this without having you read them your Manifest on Time and Music first.

yes, I think so too.
I do think there certainly are times when the perception of time can be that time slows down, or speeds up, but never real displacement - unless were talking Psychosisville here.

his software can utterly disregard the laws of physics and create new alternate dimensions and portals to metaphysical realms and it is powered by a team of tiny rodents hooked up to a boot on a string or haven't you been paying any attention at all?!?!
