For those of us in America, the month of March is known as Women's History Month. It is a time of reflecting upon the trials and tribulations of women who had a dream of aborting their baby, putting on shoes and leaving the kitchen. Now in the present day, women have more options open to them then they could have ever dreamed. Thanks to the female inginuity, calculators are now able to divide things by zero and give out compliments. Personal computers can now give out advice on what clothes to wear and digitally record the latest episode of "Oprah". However one of the biggest improvements in the womens movement isn't just wearing shoes while being pregnant in the kitchen, but rather, hiring another woman to look over your spoiled kids while you go date Mr. Right, who pretends to be interested in what you have to say in hopes that you'll please him orally. Men today know their place in society thanks to the womens movement. Of course, spending hard earned money in hopes of having intercourse is the most common trait amongst post-movement men, however this is not as important as being a 'jerk'. Even though the 'jerk' is a relic of the pre-movement era, this is something that women are still incredibly attracted too. reasons why the 'jerk' is still such a popular role in society is because it reminds women of how their ancestors used to be treated. Its empowering for women to feel the pain of their great grandmothers in the same way its empowering for a black person to be forced to sit at the back of a bus. Ladies, you've come a long way and we salute you. |

Period Facts: The start of periods is probably the biggest change that takes place for a girl during puberty. As a rough guide your periods will probably start about two years after your breasts start to develop, soon after you grow pubic hair, and after you notice some vaginal discharge. Your body works in an amazing way. Every month it goes through a complex cycle, known as the menstrual cycle which will enable you to have children one day. Every month when your ovary releases an egg, your body gets ready just in case you do get pregnant. Hormones called progesterone and oestrogen work together to make a soft spongy lining of blood and tissue thicken the inside of the uterus. If the egg is fertilised it will settle in the lining where it will be nourished and develop into a baby. If the egg isn’t fertilised, then the lining of the uterus is not needed anymore, and your body gets rid of the blood through your vagina. This is your period. Everyone has slightly different cycles, but a full cycle usually lasts 28 days. But remember anywhere between 21 and 35 days is normal! Each period you have will last from roughly 3 and 7 days. Most women have periods from between the ages of 9 to 16 and will continue to have them until they are about 50. At around this age women’s bodies go through another change called the menopause. When you first start your periods you may notice that your cycle is not very regular. You might not have a period for 2 or 3 months, and when it does come it may last 1 day or 10! Relax, this is normal. Your body will take a while to settle down into a regular cycle, which may take 2 or more years. To help make periods an easier thing to live with there are many forms of products that you can buy. If you suffer from stomach cramps a hot water bottle or some primrose oil can help these to go. |

There are two main products that you can use during your period: these are pads or tampons. Pads are worn outside your body, in your underwear. They have a sticky patch on the back, which keeps them secure inside your underwear. Tampons are worn inside the body, in the vagina. You can purchase these products from chemists, supermarkets, some newsagents and garages. Different products are tailored to different blood flows. Use whatever feels comfortable for you. Always remember to change your towel or tampon regularly. |
