fuck soulseek / solar seek. i wanted to download music by
BOOM BIP and THELONIOUS MONK. i either get zero results or
results with 2638 users in queue.
there must be a filesharing programm for mac that WORKS.
limewire is good for single tracks, but you dont find no
albums there.

Does DC++ work on a mac?

Or couldn't you run a Windows emulator and run something
that way.

Have you tried ssX? It's far better than
solarseek, and I find loads of good stuff with it. I ran
Nicotine via X11 for some time but got fed up with it
crashing all the time, and then I switched. It's the only
p2p for me.

DirectConnect is available for mac, but it sucks.

I found the interface to be a bit confusing at first, but
after an hour it rocked. Infact it's the sexayest p2p I've
come across :)

I've been using Nicotine.app with X11 for ages now and never
really have any problems with it crashing... Not getting
search results is much more to dfo with the Slsk network
search being phukked than anything to do with your client
software.

Never tried ssX but will need to have go shortly.

MlMac is also worth checking out, you can also run it as a
daemon which can be quite handy. Connects to DC, Slsk, ed2K,
Gnutella etc.. My experience with it is that downloads are
bloody slow, but there's quite a lot of content available.

i got it. i like the interface, even though you got that
many windows. but somehow i dont find files. not even if i
type something in like "pink floyd".

i find it best to search the chatrooms. I always get tons
more hits that way opposed to just the shared network.

i get results now. it's definetly better than soulseek. i'll
also try that with the chatrooms. thx!

i'll also check out mimac.

i'm using SolarSeek and i'm happy with it...

trying ssX now... i don't get it so far o_O
i don't even know if i'm connected, "connect to server"
doesn't seem to do anything. weird.

I look forward to trying ssx when I get off the uni network,
solarseek is quite annoying and I have a feeling it doesn't
work properly

nevermind
i got it, it's cool : )

Hmm, strange. If you are connected, you should see the
connect to server in gray under the filemenu. I'm hoping you
have filled in your login details properly, if not, that
might be the problem. On that note, it would have been nice
with an icon that showed online/offline status.

Dannn_ I got that same feeling with solarseek.

good thread. lookiing forward to checking out some of these
when i finally get round to upgrading from 10.2.8. Most need
10.3 i see

I currently use acquistion

Acquistion

It's fairly limited in terms of muisc files (improving all
the time though).. but it does work rather nicely in
conjunction w/itunes and osx in general, which makes me like
it

I use a program called acqlite. It was pretty cool, but the
last Java update killed it.
So I got this instead, it's a patched version which gets
round the bug and also connects to infinite networks.

Patched acqlite

The original version is here : Original acqlite

why do you think direct connect (dc++) suck? it's usually
much faster then slsk, and as long as you know which hubs to
search you will find whatever you need.

What I meant was the client is shit. I haven't rummaged
around on the DC to make a fair statement about it.

ssX is dope
I've been using it for about 2 weeks now and its interface
is astoundingly elegant.

The only problem I've noticed is some users having
difficulties retrieving files from the directories of ssX
mac users. I think that can be manually fixed though.

In any case, my ssX/slsk user name is gl0tch.

I do not have that problem, on the contrary, I don't think
I've had so many users d/l off me ever!

What I like the most is how it groups the downloads by the
various users. Sooo clever :)

how do you know where to look in direct connect? I'm using
it now, it looks good but i'm kind of wandering aimlessly..

i've been using limewire for a couple of months... And it
was working quite well until recently. I've started
to get little problems, like crashes, weird warnings.. im
seeking a new one now.
i'll guess i'll try out that ssX one... :)

What do you mean, is it the user/pass in the prefs? If so,
you can pretty much write anything there, it's just a
formality.
