Admit it. You ARE disappointed

I just realised that RDJ have released half the Analord
series. Stuff that we’ve waited for in excitement and
hyped as hell here at XLTl. And I have also admitted to
myself that I don’t like it. The two tracks on AL10 is
great, but the tracks on 1-4 (19 if I remember correct) are
from decent+ to poor. I mean, if there was a fellow XLT’er
who had made them, I would have thought he had some nice
tunes, but fuck it; this is Aphex Twin, the techno-legend!
The man who gave us ICBYD, RDJ-album and Druqks. Shouldn’t
we expect more when he finally release something? Look me in
the eyes (sunglasses) and tell me that the tracks on analord
1-4 are top notch, that they are among your all-time Aphex
Twin favourites! This is sad.

The only way is up, baby, for you and me now.

It's difficult to say if they're in my all-time favourites
yet, that's something that will be seen over time, but I
have to say that the Analord series so far has really made a
big impression on me and has been on heavy rotation both in
my house and my headphones.

I'm not in the least dissapointed, rather overwhelmed rather
and have really been enjoying the lot. It's understandable
that not everyone is so keen on these releases as they don't
sound that 'modern' as the gear used for making these is not
capable of the kind of cut-up breaks heard on Druqks. People
who were not around when Universal Indicators, Caustic
Window EPs etc came out might not be into this kind of music
in the first place...but I think the whole series is really
a treat for all the veteran fans who have been waiting for
more AFX techno.

Baaah. Don't know really. Like I don't know what to expect
of new Autechre, BoC, and so on. Just that one of my
favourite artists delivers the real deal. I got exceited
when AL10 was released, but when I listen to the rest, I
just think that it's not the Aphex top standard.

Cyngus: That's the magic of the internet. You can actually
listen to it BEFORE you buy it, to check out if you like it.
So I guess I'll stick to my other 25-30 AFX-releases in my
shelves.

id be fucking pissed if people were screaming about my music
and creativity and shit - when they just downloaded them at
shit sounding mp3 quality - listened to them during work or
in between classes and then tossed them in a folder on their
computer as storage data so other people can share it off
them - then seconds afterward they clicked open the web
browser to complain about it - id want to take a big fat
shit right in your mouth

you'd better drop that attitude fast or your going to get an
ulcer. If you do *anything* in the eye of many people, you
are judged, and people talk.

granted it sucks, but dude this is not something you can

i'm just saying you didn't really suffer much if you got the
music for free at well quality and you didnt like it. just
delete it and go on to the next quick pick

The reason why I'm whining is because I feel one of my all
time favourite artist has lost the touch. If that's not
worth complaining about, I don't know what is. And if I had
appreciated the Analord series, I would have bought the
records, just like other Aphex Twin stuff.
That's it.

and I'm saying people can criticize anything as much as they
want, and reasoning about justification is silly.

i love xmd5a, klop job and breath march and i like
phonatacid, canticle drawl, laricheard, bwoon dub, the rest
of the songs are ok, some of them even plain boring..i got
real excited after the analord 10, merely because of xmd5a
which is absolutely fantastic!
"I mean, if there was a fellow XLT’er who
had made them, I would have thought he had some nice tunes"

ok, i listen to as much xltronic music as possible but i
can't say i've heard anything that would come close to this,
even the boring songs..sure there are some great tunes
people make but not in the same vain so they can't be
compared really, imo.

not really, no..i find it a bit boring..but i haven't
listened to analord 1-4 properly yet, so they might grow on
me or something. there's been way too much of other music i
like atm so analord will have to wait a bit :)
weren't you complaining about polysinth beeing out of tune?

they're mostly pretty boring =(

yeah a couple things use strange tuning; I actually know
it's intentional, rdj himself posted on the p-mu forums and
joked about the tuning in one of them..

haha, all least he kept his sense of humour.

i mean, im glad he released this much music, but i really
wish the next analords to be more up to my taste again...but
then again i'd be even happier if he'd release everything
that he's got laying around, i mean he often says how he
keeps his best stuff for himself..GIVE US SOME OF THAT!!
please.

know what you mean about the humor; his usual
wit/humor/sparkle/whatever is mostly missing from these

oh well. he's already given us sooo much nice shit.. I'm
listening to that thinktoy drukqs remix and it's great

I only heard a few but they didn't inspire me to hear more
very much. They aren't elaborate like the rdj album's first
5 impossibly amazing tracks. These seem like the tracks of a
man that composes only because has made too much of a
compulsive habit of making music, but lost for the time
being at least, the original spark that motivated him to
focus his savant like concentration on every second of time.

I find them to be exactly what I had wanted to hear from
richard d james for a long time. You don't need fast
randomized beats when you have a good rhythm and beautiful
melodies.

I think its really more a matter of taste here, then
quality. Some people just really don't like acid.

i'm glad he's releasing stuff he's played live over the

Also, as always, when you hear the tracks in a mix, they

to people that enjoy raw analog synth noises this is like
sex for the ears, it's only deceptively simple,

it's all about aesthetic, plenty of people like BOC and
they're not exactly musical geniuses, they just pump out
simple, but REALLY fucking nice melodies, and everybody
loves them, if you don't like the aesthetic of the noises on
this release then you probably aren't going to like it

This is my first comment on the analord series and I have to
admit i'm a little dissapointed. I haven't 'really' liked
anything he has released since drukqs...

So far i've listened to analord 10, 1 and 2 and its a very
mixed bag... Canticle Drawl is pretty good and Fenixfunk 5
is just above average, the rest are pretty poor to my ears.

I've been a big Richard D James fan for years, for someone
to have made masterpieces like SAWII, I Care Because You Do
and the Richard D James Album its extremely dissapointing to
be hearing music by him now that is just average. Those
afformentioned albums were the peak of his career for me...

I'm probably just echoing the comments of the first poster
on here but average just isn't good enough for someone who
has made some of the most amazing music of the last decade.
