2001 or so this guy did a mix of drukqs (a good one, to
boot!) back when i was first really getting into the
album.

it was 48k and i still listen to it a lot these days (good
mix, damnit).

i emailed him if he ever wanted to send out a higher bit
rate one,

he mailed back saying he ahd just put it up (coincidence??)
and at 192k

:) wee,

it's really good, I've listened to it plenty of times, there
is some really good slowing down and speeding up of a lot of
tracks and some really good cross-overs

.....interesting.
Um, I guess this relates somehow, but
I recorded a good elect. track from a net radio station and
saved it as .wav. Like a dumbass, I deleted it thinking my
VBR encode would be ok. I deleted said reference .wav file.
I then noticed said encoded mp3 had major problems, namely
sound quality. So I get a file restoration program and use
it to retrieve the wav and play it. What comes from my
speakers is true random electronic bliss. Scares the shit
out of me; It's like my PC is a DJ and has randomly
assembled some sort of glitchy mix from bit bucket heaven! I
didn't even think twice that the file was sharing clusters
with other files in the directory I recorded them into at
it's current deleted state, so this is my explaination of
why it was restored as a "mix".
Here's the program I used
Mebbe this'll give you all an idea.... hmm?
If anyone wants, I'll give you a copy of the "mix". It's
pretty dope, IMHO.

Now that I think about it, it's like someone recorded
sifting through numerous radio stations, so it might be a
little annoying to some.
Shit, the recovered wav file wasn't even the track I saved
haha
I wish I could recognize what it is, it's pretty lush

offline x0hx from Lysdexia (United States) on 2005-02-25 01:42 [#01512176]
Points: 1318 Status: Regular

One note about that program:
Do *not* save the recovered file to the same drive you
recorded the original to. If you do, you'll fuk yer drive
up
Some kinda FAT bug
No pun intended

hook it up..., sounds neat....
can you compress it to mp3 or something before you send
it/put it up somewhere?

thinktoy's from these here parts and has been a great
piononeer of electronica on dublin radio and in
gigs/festivals for years. This mix was up and running the
very week drukqs came out over here... masterfull

I remember emailing him about the mix and wondered would he
ever do a squarepusher megamix .... it never emerged but
someone with the skills should defo do some sort of
decade-spanning squarepusher supermix.

Good stuff. Only one point near the end that doesn't work
too well, but the vast majority of it is rocking.

IMO: Boring. No wonder why you people liked the warpvision
mix cd.

aesthetics: I'm sure you could come up with something
better, druqks based (I have your revolt mix).

how many times did you listen to it? i love how people are
so quick to give a critique of something they havent even
listened to.

Speaking of this... there's something called "Druqks hard
traxx" or "Hard tracks remaster" which seems to be the fast
drukqs tracks remastered and enhanced. The same guy who did
the Melodies on Mars remastering. Is it good? I can't seem
to find it on soulseek :(

offline OK on 2005-02-26 10:38 [#01513980]

I listened it once. BOOOOORING. Deleted the file.

re-downloaded because of your comment. Listened 100 times.
Still just a Mix anyone could do with traktor.

I love how this concept of grower music has become a mantra
in the nerd music lovers community.

-OH GOD I HATE THIS
-Listen it again and again until you like it
-ok.

week later...

-I Still hate it but i have it non stop on my stereo.
-You'll get it.

year later...

-OMG you were right this is good. All the time I wasted
listening to something I didn't like was totally worth it.
Now I can stop listening this and find something new.

"I love how this concept of grower music has become a mantra

You've just described the relations fans have with Venetian
Snares ;) (I am guilty of that). It's more of a love/hate
relationship we have with the artists and their music

I don't hear mixes like this very often, especially not on
albums that I love as much as drukqs. Personally I thought
it was neat hearing the songs morph into one another at
altered tempos, but if it's something you hear often I guess
it would probably get stale. Sorry you didn't enjoy it as
much as some of us did.

offline OK on 2005-02-26 13:02 [#01514140]

it's ok.

offline mrgypsum on 2005-02-26 13:07 [#01514146]

whats wrong with repeat listens? it usually takes me a few
listens for anything not just nerd community music or
whatever that is, for the music to grow on me, plus i like
listening to stuff more than just a couple of times, i think
this mix warrents many listens since it is drukqs, an album
that i am very familar with, but sounds alien to me

offline Aesthetics from the IDM Kiosk on 2005-02-26 13:21 [#01514165]
Points: 6796 Status: Lurker

there is nothing wrong with that, after 2 listens this mix
gets boring imo...maybe that is because I know Drukqs all
the way

I gave it another try because it is a 192kbit version,
otherwise I wouldn´t be bothered
