I always say 'plad' when I am speaking about them, but in my
mind I personally prefer 'played' cos it just sounds cooler.

2. Plad

I'm from Derbyshire.

I knew it was pronounced Plad because somewhere in the dim
and distant past I remember Steve Martin talking about his
film 'Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid', and he pronounced it as
Plad.

well, that what i thought too, but the existence of this
topic and Zeus's link made me doubt now.
i must be pronouncing it wrong.

oh well, i don't care...

(by the way, "Autechre" seems pretty obvious to me as well)

surely it's "plad" in the sense that the word 1) in the U.K.
(and presumably in USA too) is pronounced UNLIKE "played",
and 2) the Plaid guys themselves are on the record for
saying it's "really" with a single vowel, although they
don't mind either way.

But the link to "played" is pretty obvious in some sense.
Just don't pronounce it that way. Maybe their name is
unpronouncable, unutterable, like the name of G/O/D??

the correct way is probably 'plad'. like a plaid shirt. it
sounds so shit though, like you're trying to impress someone
by saying it. like autechre. i hate when people ask, what is
this your listening to? 'autechre'. i usually respond with
'some music i downloaded of the net'.

there's no 't' in plaid tolstoyed

see the thing is, 'autechre' seems to be said by many as
'aw-tek-ker'.. but apparently if it is a combination of
audio technical research or whatever, then shouldn't it be
'aw-tek-reh' ?
