Akira is probably the best animé.
So I'll mention one or two other things worth seeing...
Wings Of Honneamise is a pretty good epic film about a
rocket launch.
Patlabor Mobile Police (the first movie) is an intelligent
cop/mecha film.
Cowboy Bebop is very good.

Cowboy Bebop is indeed awsome. It's the first anime i've
seen and its the one that I have watched most. The
animation, story, characters, everything about it is great.
Also - nice collection Gwely Mernans!

cowboy bebop
full metal alchemist
gungrave
neon genesis evangelion
trigun

those are the top 5 anime series i've ever seen.. and the
following few come very close

scryed
elfen lied
berserk
fist of the north star (sentimental favourite)
saint seya
hellsing

I must ask, since I'm thinking of buying the
Texhnolyze-series; now, there's two versions released, one
from Geneon (american), and one from Madman (australian).
Geneon has anamorphic widescreen, and madman goes by the 4:3
format, which one do you reckon is better?

Anyone expert on tv-formats?

there are a few considerations.. first of all there's your
tv. If it's 4:3 you should probably get 4:3 unless you're
planning on going widescreen later on. The second thing you
have to consider is what the show is made in originally. I
know many people seem to think some things are originally
made in 16:9 because that's what cameras somehow are in, but
the fact of the matter is that certain shows are stored in
4:3 only so the 16:9 "upgrades" are really just silly
stretching, and with all these new-fangled "oh, let's
stretch everything!" lcd tvs, you know there's going to be
trouble. Check the company that makes/sells it, IMDB,
Wikipedia and Animenfo (more specifically their forums) for
information about the original format of the show.

I know this thread is about rating anime but making a new
one just for one image would be kind of pointless. Anyway
here's something I found - LAZY_TITLE I have no idea
whats going on in it though.

Drunken Mastah: Yes, that's what I've heard.

But don't give in, man.

They say you'll get hooked in due time, and remember it's
the fellas behind Lain, and Haibane.

Cowboy Bebop didn't "click" for me until ep 5 or 6 (when
Vicious appeared), but man what a mistake I'd have made If I
hadn't have watched it all through.

And on a personal note, 80-90% of all anime is crap, so

Did I mention "the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya" yet? It's
definitely worth watching!

I also recently enjoyed Inukami and Bobobo bo bobobobo.

Kamichu looks good.. funny yet relaxing.

Pugyuru doesn't make sense. AWESOME! She's edible, and she's
fine with it!?

Muteki Kanban Musume is also quite good!

Has anyone seen Millennium Actress? It's the second anime
directed by Satoshi Kon that i've watched (the first being
Paranoia Agent) and it's pretty good, the guy definitely
knows what he is doing.

I know it's meant to be good, but I just found it a bit
repulsive and empty. It's got some great fight scenes and
stuff, but it lacks soul for me.

I'm about to watch Princes Mononoke.

Aumanga Daioh: Awesome!

Ippatsu Kikimusume: Awesome! Definitely recommended. Each
episode is only, like, five minutes long, so you can check
it out quite easily.

Muteki Kanban Musume: So far it's looking good, but it could
get tiresome. I don't know yet.

Pumpkin Scissors: It started out great, now it's in a kind
of slower paced thing, but I'm hoping it'll pick up again
when it gets back to the original plot, if it ever does so.

4/5 His and Her Circumstances (Kare Kano)
5/5 Paranoia Agent
3.5/5 Fruits Basket
4.5/5 Excel Saga [ baseball coach on toilet :O ]

The Texhnolyze: Music Only Music But Music soundtrack is
tops.

5/5 Angel Cop
Seems like there's no love for this forgotten film, it's
become one of my favourites.

I love the introduction scene:

Masked gunman have broken into an office and taken the
workers hostage. The door bursts open and someone wearing a
motorcycle helmet comes through, shooting the place up. The
last baddie gets his brains blasted all over the wall. The
shocked workers turn to their saviour. The helmet comes off
revealing a woman!!! (reveal is played three times)

"The name's Angel, but don't let that fool you, I can be a
bitch if I want to."

:)

Gwely, that's a really nice collection *jealous* Nice
shelves, too.

I notice you have Haibane Renmei. I haven't seen it yet, but
it looks nice...

also:

4/5 NieA_7
4.5/5 Voices of a Distant Star

5/5 Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro
One of my favourites, an awesome early Miyazaki.

the girl who leapt through time - 10/10

highly comical and touching, with some of the best animation
to come out of japan outside of studio ghibli.

it's one of those japanese animated films, like the ghibli
movies and satoshi kon's films, that go beyond the
cheesiness and pandering you expect from anime and proves
itself as a true work of art. definitely up there with the
greats.

a small section of Ultra Drama at the end. the rest of the
