Yeah, Guy is quite a guy. Memento is great fun; had to see it twice in the theater. Following is also recomended. It's in the new release section at the video store over here but I don't know when it was released. I think I liked it just as much.

it IS overrated.. That movie bored me shitless. All you do is try to understand what the fuck's happening so you can't even enjoy the movie. Boring setting, boring actors. It sucked.

yo, not all movies have to brainless to be enjoyable - some movies are enjoyable because, shock, they AREN'T brainless and they are like puzzles!
i know mr spielberg would be shocked to hear this, but i'm sure he'll understand when you tell him J198

look, dude. I didnt say the movie was too complicated for me or anything. As for movies that are like puzzles, there are a lot of better ones out there.
I can enjoy low budget/independant films just like anybody here. I loved Pi and Requiem for a dream and other good movies like those, but this one was just a sad attempt to confuse people and nothing more.
It's probably also because everybody around me was so excited about it and when i saw it i expected too much of it. Still, i dont ever want to see it again.
Just my opinion against the whole world it seems but oh well, i can enjoy other movies too..

j198 "All you do is try to understand what the fuck's happening so you can't

i dont get it....u cant enjoy the movie cuz its to complicated ?well that IS the point my dear j198.......its a very cerebral movie and its trying to make a mental interaction with the public...and THATS a joy.....
smart people tend to be happy when something mentally occupies them....but i dont know, maybe u dont count yourself as one...
anyway its all a matter of choice,u can always watch "friends" on tv and be happy....

Movies can be confusing without overdoing it.. in Memento it was overdone. There is only this memory loss theme and nothing else. If you enjoy watching a movie ONLY to get confused, then i think something is wrong with you.
So dont be a retard yourself by implying that i am not intelligent enough to understand a movie, thats a bit childish isn't it?
'Friends' is a great show, but i wouldnt really want to compare it to any movies.. I watch both happy and unhappy things, as long as it offers a bit more than hours of boredom.

you implied it yourself - it's not overly confusing at all - it's an engrossing fractured movie - if you found it overly confusing then maybe you ought to stick to the "intricate" plot of the hit comedy series "Friends"

ok, it wasnt overly confusing, but along with the overall boring moments, it did not manage to hold my attention. Again, there are shitloads of good confusing movies with excellent plots that i enjoy a lot. Fight Club would be a good example.
Oh and how sad are you when you think its cool to think that "friends" is a lame show, just like those people here who think pop music is lame because they listen to electronica only? Give me a break..

"There is only this memory loss theme and nothing else" ??
well have u heard of a term "minimal" ? its the most minimalistic movie i have seen in a while, and thats its biggest quality.....its so fuckin deep, were introduced with the main character, and from that moment were in his mind, and its our only job-to think his thoughts, and try to rebuild the complete story just like hes trying....its very fractured as marlowe said it,and cuz of that someone may think its overconfusing, but it isnt really when you play it in normal order.
its a very common story told in a very uncommon and original way....
phenomenal movie anyway....

Appreciation of art will always be a matter of personal preference, both definable and undefinable (and partially definable); Maybe sometimes when people use language - "The movie/music sucks." they mean "The movie/music is not something I personally enjoyed." The first statement seems to often lead to arguments maybe because it could be interpreted as an attack on the art itself, and not merely one on the art's personalized effect. The particular art or set of art that we each consider to be of the highest quality (for lack of a better word) has highly varied effects on other people...I think we all know that. If you accept this, then maybe you won't feel like an attack made on something you enjoy is an attack made on you.

why did that movie blow up? in theaters it was in mostly independent theaters and then somehow it gets all world famous way after its been on video for a while and then they hype up insomnia like everyone knows it. i did like the movie though but it would have been better if less people knew about it. i dont like when the whole media does stuff to good movies.

Momento was one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. It was very well done, good plot, interesting things. Really makes you think. It kept me guessing at a lot of stuff.
And just when you think you figured out the plot, it slaps you in the face at the end/beginning.

my interpretation of this movie *spoiler*
in chronoligical order:
lenny uncovers conman pretending to have memory condition (sammy), lenny and wife get attacked at home, wife survives, lenny survives but with memory condition.
Lennys wife goes through the rigmoral we see with sammy throughout the film, lenny eventually kills his wife (but not on purpose). Lenny hunts down his wifes attackers with the help of teddy, finds them, kills them, doesnt remember. Teddy then abuses lennys condition and gets him to kill drug dealers and other criminals etc by lying to lenny, sending him fake police files etc that match the file of his wifes attackers.
Lenny kills mr handlebar moustache, and makes up 'facts' that teddy is his wifes attacker so that he'll think its him and track him down and kill him.
Lenny then takes moustache mans suit, and goes to the bar moustacheman's mrs works at. She figures out (duh) that he's killed her bloke, knows teddy did it, and gets lenny to kill off todd who will inevitably come after her thinking she did it, she also tricks lenny into killing teddy for killing moustache man, even though ironically, lenny has set himself up to kill teddy in the future anyway.
the end.
