Maybe it's your ears that are out of tune.

Then it must be the home made polysynth.

A+++++++++ EXCELLENT TOPIC

yeah he just intended to drive us all up walls by making
shit slightly off. Trust me, if you put shit into a
frequency diagram (the beginning stuffs), it's not multiples
of 12th-root-of-2 blaaaaaaaah

What? how do you know what scale he is using? maybe its in
tune for the scale he has chosen. It isn't necesarily a
homemade polysynth, all analogue circuits will experience
drift, usually related to temperature changes,

i.e. it is calibrated at room temperature, then played on
stage under hot lights and its out of tune, hence the
popularity of digital.

digital doesn't drift because it works on on/off, not
levels, so a level can be altered a little by temperature,
but when on volts = 5 and off =0, a small change of say 0.1
volt will make no difference to the state, but 0.1 volt on a
1 volt per octave analogue will make it tune differently.

or it could just be your ears that are out of tune, perhaps
upgrade to digital ears for better clarity.

I don't think it has anything to do with scale, the actual
synth that is being used is itself out of tune

Why does music have to be in tune? I dont think it should.

it doesnt, but if it is out of tune, it's okay to say so

but how do you know what the tuning is supposed to be. If a
note is a few semitones 'out of tune' is it really out of
tune if it is supposed to be a few semitones low. more
likely it would be out of tune, if it was supposed to be 3
semitones lower than it should but has drifted up by three
so it is 'in tune' but also out of tune from what the sound
manipulator desired.

However thinking about this too much may crash the
space-time continum, I think its worth the risk though.

By out of tune I mean certain voices are being played
simultaneously with others at slightly different tunings..
somewhere between a quarter and an eighth tone off. It
happens a couple times in analord (check boxing day too), so
I guess he was trying to get a certain sound. It's a little
painful for me though.

I'm not talking about it relative to an absolute tuning of
A-442 or something.

its no different than detuning oscilators. i do it all the
time u tune one out from the root note and u get strange
dischordant sounds or wobbling effects or even binaural
waves!
