Music isn't going to a club. Going to a club is going to a
club. The majority of people who listen to music do not go
to clubs, and clubs do not play a wide range of music on the
whole.

Also, Religion is an organised bringing together of people
of a similar faith. Music is everything, everywhere, for
eternity.

Explain why you believe Music is a Universal Religion.

Music tries to achieve a cathartic breakthrough with the
audience. Done well, the result is powerful emotional
release. Just like the passion of christ

Music doesn't try anything. Music is an abstract term. If
people find solace or power or comfort through music, then
that is via their interaction with this newly-made proper
noun, Music.

You don't exist until you interact.

You could say the same thing about Religion.

Religion isn't abstract, so, you could say the same thing
about Religion, but you'd be wrong.

You're confusing Religion with Spirituality. The two are
normally as far apart as is possible.

1% arsenic...and 1% arsenic kills...Most religions give you
99% truths and feel good messages....but the 1% lies can
kill you"

religion is there to explain things you dont understand (eg
where you go when you die).

music is entertainment.

music is noise that sounds nice. sure, different noises
create different cultures (almost like a religion) but in
the end, it is just noise.

Go to a Judas Priest concert and find out!

FlyAgaric - music is not just 'noise'... it can be felt as
well as heard, through vibrations. All senses are the same
thing from different perspectives.

offline faaip_de_oiad from Sirius (United States) on 2005-02-22 10:26 [#01507854]

No shit, FlyAgaric obviously doesn't have a clue. The
ignorance found in a statement such as this can only come
from unsophistication and a primitive mentality. Simple
people + juvenile mentalities = Imbecilic ideas created by
the uninformed who are naive to their own ignorance. Sad, I
know. Music is not just noise that sounds nice, as you so
pathetically put it. That is the most fucking simple-minded
view point someone could have. Music is based on
mathematical principles, e.g. equations and patterns, and
since the whole universe is based off these same
mathematical principles; music is a lot more important and
powerful than the simple people like you give it credit for.
Math can be communicated through music, thus, making music
the language of the universe. Case in point, no matter what
language a musician speaks, his/her music can still be
understood by everyone around the world regardless of what
language the listener speaks. So in theory, that in turn
suggests that if we ever make contact with intelligent
beings from somewhere else in the universe, the only one
true thing both of our species would understand is
mathematics, which we would then rely on music to
communicate with each other. I could go on and on about the
power and influence music has had on the human race since
the beginning, but it should already be known and realized.
I think it's time you left the kiddie pool and attempted
surviving in the deep end. Learn to Swim!

haha! ouch man, that hurt :) after reading your lovely short
story i think i will stick by my statement (just for the
hell of it) even though i never meant to make the idea of
music sound unimportant (or make a concrete statement, even
though i am aware it was a somewhat ambigious statement).
i'm sure autechre use mathematical formulas to create their
music (though i wouldn't know) but to me most music is
simple verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus (a
pretty simple formula). There are obviously exceptions
(nothing that would impress aliens though). I've heard a lot
of people (including my high school math teachers) say that
when aliens do visit earth, we will communicate with math
however i'm sure that if we played them vordhosbn they would
laugh at how inferior we look at trying to impress them with
this noise(?). I'd like to go on but at the moment i'm just
masturbating with words trying to live up to your beast of a
post. I am, like you said, simple minded (i come from a
third world country afterall), so please don't take things i
say too seriously. Peace out, homey.

I mean really. Why act as though music is universial. Just
because earth has music doesnt mean that every living
creature in the universe will respond and react to music.

Humans are the ones mostly effected by music. If you play a
giraffe cannibal corpse or Buddy Miles it isnt going to
matter.

he much prefers music that use organic sounds. at least he
seems more relaxed when i play that kind of music.

music is most definitely spiritual... music is not
necessarily mathematical (this is a western fallacy)...
music is just noise that sounds nice, which is precisely why
it points to the interconnecting spaces between subjective
beings... the question always: why why why why?

why haven't i been able to get on this board for days?

Yes. In my manner of making music i dont use time sigs, or
think about math in the least. I make music by ear. If
someone wants to look at the sound from a mathimatical
standpoint then thats all and great.

Music can be applied to the idea of being spiritual but to
say music is spiritual is not entirely true. There is
nothing spiritual about the music i make.

I think we as people tend to look into things too deeply to
find meaning in our own lives. This is proven by that faiip
guy or whatever. I mean talk about taking a personal
idea/belief and shoving it down the throat like a large cock
of an unwilling participant. I hate when people act all
knowing.

The fact of the matter is that no one knows shit. We like
music and we listen to music and there you have it. You cant
go much further than this with out adopting faith/beliefs.
And to make any point solid you will need evidence/proof.

Spirituality would have to do with a higher power or spirit.
Some people dont belive in that shit. You see where i am
going with this. Ah well....

look at us..... taking a monoid thread seriously. I blame
jocco

i don't think spirituality necessarily entails some sort of
faith in a higher being... just a belief in a sentience
beyond the explanation of our current scientific paradigm
(sorry i can't think of a more simple term)... why do you
make certain choices instead of others? why is it that one
melody stops you in your tracks and another leaves you cold?

that being said i just have to congratulate you (and awt)
once again on an awesome album made. i made copies for a few
people and so far everyone loves it to bits. there's
something special about it i can't quite put my finger on,
great vibe. made my car trip (and my sleep last night - very
dreamlike music!) very enjoyable.

hope im not coming on too strong, trying to suck your dick
and all.

spirituality is a difficult thing to describe because
different people have differing opinions and concepts based
on it making it very difficult to discuss.

Can music be related to spirituality? Yes in certain
instances it can. There is music made for meditation/oobe,
you have music that deals with worship and praise etc etc.

More or less i believe that music is/has more or less to do
with emotions and thoughts. Perhaps one would like to make
songs that sound like seasons (yagya). Its a form of art
that is audible and helps to develop mental images. It can
be used to put one in a variety of moods.

Depending on the outcome that is required. If you are going
to a death metal concert chances are that you will be
listening to death metal. You know what i mean?

I dislike faiip's description and talking down to FlyAgaric.
