That was a interesting post of Dickie's, I think it shows an insight into why he's so good at what he does, obvioulsy he know his stuff inside out but there's no great psuedo theories or quantum math beats, just making music that recognises the imperfect human element that's present even in electronic instruments. Analord!

It's actually the percieved inperfections that make the music what it is. I took his advice though and have just bought some military grade plutonium warheads which, if I can get the MIDI working on, should give me some wicked low end frequencies and rumble.

I must admit I am kind of intrigued what is meant by military grade music equipment, does Bwoon Dub refer to some experimental sonic weapon that flattens vegetation so Charly has nowhere to hide?

well, for me appart from xmd5a which sounds amazing to my ears everything else was a letdown..sure they're (almost) all nice tracks, but after hearing xmd5a i was hoping for much more..hopefully some of the next analords are going to be more up to my taste again.

I understand your point, but AFX has never been as complex as Aphex.

Yeah because the Hangable Auto Bulbs weren't complex at all.

None of his stuff is really complex he just structures and layers some of his tracks to absolute perfection and his melodic work is amazing.

I really don't get this thing of reading too much into the names AFX over Aphex Twin, I thought it was just a contractual thing because he was signed to Warp as Aphex. The Analord series is most in the spirit of Selected Ambient Works 85-92, and there's not many "acid" tracks released under AFX, well not till now. I dare say there is some rhyme or reason to the different names, but I don't think it's just music attributed to AFX is simpler.

you cant really even compare, say, vordhosbn, to, say, laughable butane bob, in terms of design anway.

hmm, xmd5a sounds very complex to me..ofcourse it's only my opinion :)
as for names, i thought it was only coz of the warp-rephlex thing as well..drukqs just stand out of all his work too much, but the rest of it is much more in the same vein..

No worries.. thought you guys would find it as interesting as I did. It's a pretty rare do from him, I think. Also, a nice insight into his analog workings.

i have no doubt thats him... read the whole topic..
he only signed his name on that post. his knowledge is superb.. noone else comes out with that much detailed shit about analog stuff.
later on someone criticises his post and then jess retorts with something like 'shit! you dont know who your talking to!'
also mike p confirmed it and i noticed that 'analord' only left 10 posts...

i love how people can sit there an argue about whether it's really him or not (hell, im surprised a new fuking thread didn't emerge from this nonsense, trying to fig out whether it was him or not)
but you know,
people can't just "accept" information
