jazz fusion... I've always had trouble with that genre (and
every other genre)...

depends on what the fusion is with...

I think Jaga Jazzist is jazz-fusion.. and then Tied and
Tickled Trio would also be...

I'd start with Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Tony
Williams, Billy Cobham, Jing Chi, Bela Fleck, Jazz Is Dead.
This genre is a bit weird because now everything is being
called a fusion of some kind, But those bands stick to the
original sound that was named fusion.
Marc Ribot, Medeski Martin & Wood, Lounge Lizards, The
Chicago Underground Trio, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Scott Amendola
are all worth checking out too and they don't go into
difficult territory or anything. Have fun now.

I second Mahavishnu Orchestra - start with Inner Mounting
Flame.

word, thanks for the suggestions.

medeski martin and wood will be playing here (south florida)
in about 3 weeks. i'm pretty excited to hear some good,
live, interesting music. very few bands i like nowadays, i
guess that's why i'm trying to learn about a genre that was
in it's prime about 20 years ago..

Miles Davis "Bitch's Brew" period.

MMW are great funk/jazz and if you like them Check out Jimmy
Smith (live at the chicken shack-for starters) as he is the
fuser of the hammod organ into jazz.

just , a fucking HUGE artist. the best fusion jazz guitarist
of all time. any one of his ten or so solo albums are
incredible. and his work in "vital information" , a trio
containg steve smith on drums and stuie hamm on bass guitar
, well that stuff is fucking diseased. pure terror.

the flecktones last album was a 3 cd deal , 'little worlds'
, wow that is a damn good set.

are you on soulseek ? i have all this stuff.

have you heard johnny hammond ? crazed 70's jazz / fusion
/ disco / porn music. sweet shit.
