Yes. But its not going to happen.

They are now giving daily doses of heroin away to a select
number of addicts in vancouver now.

mmm, people should be able to do whatever they want so long
as it doesn't harm other people. in that sense, people
should be allowed to do drugs and will be held responsible
for what they do to themselves. however, people often drive
while under the influence or will steal other people's
belongings, sometimes killing people for them, in order to
get more drugs.

i think certain areas should legalize certain drugs. i think
marijuana should be legal and cigarettes should be illegal.

Shit that's associated with substance abuse like driving
under the influence, neglecting your children, and whatnot
should be illegal.... oh wait, it already is.

People abuse everything. If we tried to outlaw everything
with a potential for abuse it'd be thx1138 or some shit.

Dump a bunch of money into truthful education, and let
people make up their own minds.

There wouldn't be a black market, hence all the organized
crime and overly inflated prices that lead to that crime if
drugs were legalized.

i think the government should be allowed to protect people
from themselves as much as from others

Exactly. And getting substances from a government controlled
source would be far safer than from a dodgy bedroom chemist.

If we made all drugs legal then it would stop a lot of drug
related crimes. loads of organised crime is drug related and
I think making it legal would put an end to it
(partially/dunno/whatever).

I also think no. I can see it now, little kids trying out
cocaine at the age of 12.

Nah, that's a real slippery slope when the gov't gets into
the business of protecting people from themselves. Not a
good idea imhotepsticles.

One of the main problems is that the gov't isn't truthful
about drugs. I mean, I grew up thinking that druggies were
all shady looking mean older dudes with bags under their
eyes, wearing dirty leather jackets, and that if i took one
toke off a marajuanna cigarette my heart would explode.

When in fact, the people that first offer you drugs are the
kids that you've grown up with, and when they do them they
have a really good time.

When your perception of reality doesn't match up with what
D.A.R.E. taught you, you pretty much reject everything and
just assume that drugs are really awesome. The real
downsides are not made clear, or are hidden in the
sensationalist bullshit they try to force on kids, so it all
fails.

A little more truthful education would make kids a schload
more prepared to deal with the way drugs actually work.

if drugs became legal then everyone will do them.
everyone. can you imagine a world where every single
person is high, wasted or stoned? mankind is progressing too
slowly as it is.

it's probably easier for a 12 year old to get cocaine now
than it would be if it were legal.. as, if it were legal it
would be regulated by people who want to follow the law.

as it stands, the people selling illegal drugs are not too
interested in following ID laws.

Alcohol is legal, and not everyone does that.

I've never seen either of my parents use any sort of tobbaco
product, even though legally they could.

yes.

for all practices and circumstances, it already pretty much
is. it's not very hard to get drugs and use them.

but now there is the added element of huge amounts of money
being pumped into a police system that hardly makes a ghost
of a dent in the whole drug traficking business.

and a large amount of crime is completely and solely based
on drugs which would NOT exist if all drugs where government
controlled.

a large part of the problems associated with hard drugs have
a LOT to do with poor education on the use of drugs.
why are there countless little films produced by the
government telling young people how dangerous unsafe sex can
be, how dangerous smoking can be, how dangerous drinking can
be? why not the same for other drugs?

smoking marijuana is just about as bad for your lungs as
tabacco, so I don't see how that logic works.

also there have been extensive reports by Dutch scientists
(which were first produced last year, if I remember
correctly) that directly link the use of marijuana to a
hightened chance of activating schizophrenia - not regular
use, just once would be enough.

people could their hands on drugs a lot easier if they were
legal. it figures. like alcahol is legal for 18+ yet kids
always drink it

some of my friends have a distinckt and clear logical proof
of the "no" point, but i have forgotten it.

I saw a rastaman yesterday, called Drinch, and he had a
distinckt and clear logical proof of the "yes" point, like
with governmental control drugs will be of better quality,
for example.

do you know how easy it is to get your hands on drugs now?

why do you think a lot of 16-year olds are using all that
crap anyway?

but now there is no quality control on those drugs, there is
little proper education for those kids.

I think they should be legal based on the likliness of their
users affecting other people. If a drug has a history of
directly relating to crime (other than the current crime of
actually using the drug), then it should most likely be made
illegal as it has the potential to hinder the free agency of
non related persons.

In a less realistic though potentially effective senario,
perhaps all drugs should be made legal, with the law that if
a user unwantedly affects any other person while the user is
under the influence of a drug (or even if they potentially
endanger others as in the case of driving under the
influence), they should be put to death.

I don't know that that's true. But, it may be.

When I was in highschool it was quite a bit easier for me to
get pot than it was for me to get beer. And, it's still a
whole lot easier for me to get pot than prescription pills.

I think it's because the pills, and the alcohol are
regulated by law abiding people. They have a lot to lose if
they're busted.

People who sell illegal drugs base their entire business on
breaking the law. Plus, as qrter said, who knows if you're
even buying what you think you're buying? If a pharmasist
sells you the wrong pills they'll probably loose their
licence... you're probably not going to complain to the
better business beaureau when sammy mcdruginstein sells you
ajax instead of coke.

you'll end up in hospital, where they have to contact the
police.

so not only did you get ripped off majorly, you almost died
and now you might go to jail!

i think the legality of the drugs issue is a formality for
what youre really saying - should all drugs be accepted and
used without penalization - and if thats the case, then no -
but if you choose that path - there should be more ways to
help you rather than penalize you. they system says - if you
use drugs it is your fault and you are to blame, therefore
you go to jail, and youre now a criminal.

well the system clearly isn't working as it is, it just
costs a lot of money and makes hardly any difference.
