great game that is FREAKIN hard. God damn, I just died on
bloody swamp (after the boomerang boss) where a giant wall
of spikes chases you.

this is one of my alltime fav genesis (or any 16bit system)
games. It is quite hard and I dont think I ever made
it anywhere near the end. I think I'll try to get a rom of
this so i can revisit it. It's been years since I've played
it!

There are some insane people out there... inhuman videogame
gods. I probably don't have the software needed for this
movie, but just reading the tricks he described.. sheesh.

http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/queue.cgi?id=479

Whoever made this and a lot of the doom2 "hell revealed"
best times... oh my god..

This movie was made by me in Gens 9a, and later i 9c. I
played at 6-10% speed to make frame-precision manuevers

so in his case at least, he wasn't actually doing it.

thanks for the recommendation!

Oops... he played at 6-10 percent speed... I didn't even
read that. I don't know what software to use to view it and
havn't even seen it myself. But if you want to watch
videogame gods, the best times by people in hell revealed
for doom 2 is probably the way to go.. sadly I can't watch
those either. (I think I tried before and the environment
and buttons pushed go out of sync due to certain random
things in the environment that occur differently in the
demo).

By the way... simpsons season two... SUCKS. every episode so
far.. especially the one about homer growing hair and some
fag named carl comes over and starts flirting with homer.

I just beat bloody freakin swamp right now. The game is
paused on the next level. You have to start the level
running instead of jumping and in the place with rubber
blocks going downward you have to run jump and hit your head
on the 2nd or 3rd.

I had 18 continues when I got there, heh heh. But I think I
used up 5 on that level. This game probably isn't all that
hard after you know what to do. It's better than any sonic
platformer I've played though.

This game has me p i s s e d.
Super ghouls and ghosts got me pissed for snes... I took
something and smashed the cart and havn't played it since.
Man, I hate and love that game. Stupid linear unfair game. I
wonder if it still works.

I loved this back when I was around 12 years old. I'm not
sure if I would still like it today, as my standards have
changed and I've become jaded as far as video games are
concerned.

Anyone remember Ghostbusters for Genesis? That was
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

Damn, I can't believe you have the name of a level
memorized, heh heh. I know exactly which one that is too..
yeah, it's a pain in the ass.

I just beat the game! (I actually went some path that
skipped bloody swamp (but I did have to do forced entry this
time)) The final marathon took tons of my lives because I
never did it before. The last level is "plethola" and one of
those heads with about 16 eyes that shoots mini homing heads
which in turn shoot mini homing heads. I think I beat him
out of pure luck on my fourth or so try only. I just trapped
him on top bouncing on him rapidly with the fly. The ending
was brief but fine for me. I don't really need a big
visually rewarding ending since the goal of beating it is
the reward.. You free the people trapped in the game and it
shows sprite characters of the videogame creators, then it
just resets.

brokephones- I've never played ghostbusters. I'll have to
eventually. Damn, videogames are my reality.

There's actually cheat to get from level two to plethora
google for it if you don't know it
involves jumping on a p block above the flag and crawling to
the left off it, but ther'es more to it I think than I'm
remembering (like no prize bonuses or something).

I like the people sprites they used for the developer
credits :)

Um... put me on the spot mate! I liked a lot of the generic
mario games. Mario World was one of the greats, kirby's
adventure on the NES, excitebike on the NES, Mario Kart (the
first one), man.. all I can remember is the really obvious
ones, sorry. Haven't played videogames for years. Heh anyone
evfer read superplay or cvg back in the day. That Ed Lomas,
what a card.

Kirby's adventure was great! I should get that again. It was
really easy though. Ha ha, oh yeah mariokart... that is a
great hard game too. The freakin princess throwing those
shrinking mushrooms at you... oh man.. have you noticed her
facial expression when she's right behind you? She gets
pissed when she's not in the lead... spoiled little princess
bitch. I should try and beat contra snes on the hardest
again now. I never read superplay or cvg or know what they
are.

And that bastard mario getting a star every second. I often
think that most current generation videogames have it all
wrong almost.

Yeah, it was freakin hard all right and I beat it on my very
last life if I remember right. The game is designed
carefully to make that happen it seems. I did it a longish
time ago and the end boss does one final transformation on
the hardest... I don't even remember exactly what it was
now.. something about a helicopter and a giant brain or
something.

I used to have micromachines as a computer game and it was
awesome and hard (characters were spider, joel, waldo etc.)
I'm not sure if it's the same one. But I should definately
get that for playstation if that's what it is... also the
computer version let you build your own race tracks and even
redraw everything any way you want.

The playstation version is in 3d, like polygons and stuff.
It's also really, really playable. Definitely worth a
checkout. You can also play four player with two controllers
if you want (like the pads are used sideways one person on
either end ...hard to explain). I have really fond memories
of playing that game stoned with a bunch of mates and
getting the crap kicked outta me coz I'd piss off my mate by
moving the control pad all the time in 4 player mode. Ahhh
fun.

yeah, you actually HAD to finish contra in hardest mode to
get the
full ending... but if you finished the easier modes before i
think
it wasnt toooo hard anymore, u get used to the fucking
patterns
of the bosses, with the last one you need some luck tho,
he does different things depending which of his er...
"balls"
you shoot (if i remember it right ^_^)...
and yeah, i he reappears one last time when you're hanging
on the helicopter, from beneath... persistent asshole...

Awesome game, but yeah, insanely hard. I can't really put a
dent in it (haven't played it in years though). Another hard
Genesis game was Batman and Robin... fun game but only for
one or two levels. That's as far as you're gonna get.

I think the 6th level in Ninja Gaiden is a bitch. There's an
entire, full-sized FAQ dedicated to that one level on
gamefaqs. Takes you through the level literally step by step
and lays out a million possible strategies and reactions.
Mackin'.

Battletoads has some great gameboy games too. I beat the
gameboy one which was super hard (has a totally memorable
cool level where a big rolling brain chases you.. grr)

Yeah, contra has a lot of pattern recognition, making the
game more linear/movie like and less random/chaotic. The ps2
version is a suckier overall game (visually cool though) and
also feels movie like (plays the same every time).

Actually the first ghouls and ghosts was an awesome game (I
remember standing on that maggot shooting rock thing and
shooting it's organic maggot pods from above while it made
stomach gurgling sounds..). But super ghouls and ghosts for
snes is the one that pissed me off. They took away the
ability to shoot upward or downward and gave a double jump
(forget if the original had that). The last battle with loki
was cool in the first but I never beat the snes one.. having
to do it all over again sucks especially since the "super"
weapon sucks and you sometimes end up stuck at the end with
fire, the shittiest weapon ever. That game is just cheap.

I beat ninja giaden (original nes) also. One fast boss
killing tactic in that game is using the spin slash power.
It kills them in like two hits. But I ended up using the
diagonal upward shooting deal thingy on the last boss who
sucks. I'm pretty sure it's made where you practically have
to die on the first attempt on that level after you half
defeat the boss because the second time around he will be on
his second transformation and you'll have powerups or
something like that.

I'll try batman and robin. I would have probably avoided a
title like that if nobody recomended it.

Man, they don't make games like they used to. It's hilarious
that they sell super old school atari game compilations for
playstation 2... now you have to wait 3 minutes each time
you want to play them while an overly powerful system loads.
And I'm so sick of the (successful) selling tactic of
crappily regurgitating nostalgic stuff in all forms of
entertainment.

viewtiful joe for ps2 sucks.

It's not the fun old schoolish difficult challenge people
say it is. It's a big stupid unfun challenge. Well beating
it once was entertaining I guess, but I have little interest
in replaying it on the harder "v" difficulty (and the word
viewtiful is stupid and wasn't really explained as a
substitute for beautiful). There's just a single move
(punching in zoom and slow mo) that is superior to all
others anyway and that's all you have to use practically to
win. The bosses have shitty patterns making them quite easy
after memorized.

OH FUCK MAN BATTLETOADS
That game nearly cost me and my mate a nintendo controller
each, we both must have been like 11... swearing twin blue
streaks at his TV and his mum is like "Oh boys stop using
that language it's horrible, anyway who wants scones?"

Haha childhood is a parody of itself.

But yeah battletoads was a fucking bitch of a game, never
really got that far through it either, I think there was
this race level which probably wasn't even that far into it
which continually did my head in.

Marble Madness? I used to be pretty good at that game. Now I
can't control my balls at all, sadly.
Crap at the game too.

Marble madness is a wonderful little simple game. It seems
like the type of game that some individual person would be
able to code all by himself.

I played Battletoads vs. doubledragon on (snes?) and it
pretty much sucked. I guess it was just using popular
characters to make money selling a new game. ha ha, all
these games were like 50 bucks a piece when they were new!

Have you ever played Ninja Gaiden for Xbox or Devil May Cry
for PS2? I feel like I'm playing old school when I play them
on normal or hard. I'd say they carry on the tradition of
skilltaxing 2D platformers like Contra and the old Ninja
Gaiden. Most other 3D action games now are easy and walk you
through everything holding your hand... they developers want
you to see the graphics they worked so hard on so they don't
want to test you. The new Zeldas are all insultingly easy...
whereas I can't beat the first Zelda.

Does anybody remember a nes game that felt like a clone of
the dungeon parts of zelda II that are sideview? I seem to
remember something like that where you're a fairly normal
looking person and jump around and collect keys with blocks
etc. I wonder if it's that milo's secret mansion or whatever
it's called that I heard of.
