i was checking the links at nin.com and i know its been
brought up before but nin will be playing its first shows in
the UK. But no opening act has been announced to my
knowledge...think RDJ might do an opening set for Trent?

sorry, but the first shows are in the US in California and
Nevada prior to the UK shows. the UK shows were just
announced first. The Dresden Dolls have been confirmed as
the openers.

about Richard Devine's at one time supposed involvement but
NO he answers burning missives like this one:

what, those are the worst answers ever! it would be one
thing if he answered all questions, that way you could get
some info out of him, but he actually takes that time out of
his busy reznor day to answer a question like

what do you think of the state of music today?
insincere
how about an answer that actually takes some thought?
ready here you go
what do you think of the state of music today?
well, this is a very good question, and i am happy that you
are thinking about it, because its a very important
question. but i dont think that there is just one 'state'
of music, music is so diverse and multidimensional that to
think that it all moves from one state to another is
ridicuous. think of it like this, music is dynamic, and
moves or remains stagnant in a dynamic way - think of it
like giant pot of water being heated on a stove - the
different genres are the water bubbles...well i could go on,
but as you see, these one word answers SUCK. try to think a
little trent.

this Reznor-night.

numerous times as well.

yeah... teaser of what, 5 seconds of music? ^^

after 6 years of waiting... he's really pulling our legs :
P

there is also a tracklisting:

HALO 19 _ NINE INCH NAILS: WITH TEETH
ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD
YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE?
THE COLLECTOR
THE HAND THAT FEEDS
LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH
EVERY DAY IS EXACTLY THE SAME
WITH TEETH
ONLY
GETTING SMALLER
SUNSPOTS
THE LINE BEGINS TO BLUR
BESIDE YOU IN TIME
RIGHT WHERE IT BELONGS

"You know what you are?" is a pretty crappy title.
though i'm glad the title "My dead friend" hasn't been used
eventually...

I've never heard a single thing by NIN, but goshdarnit if i
can't shake the feeling of low-level hatred for them. The
lyrics i've read quoted on here are absolutely bloody awful,
and i kind of get the impression that any kind of
"industrial" soundscapery would be a horrible Teeny-Goffic
pastiche of any music worth hearing. I could be wrong i
suppose, but mister reznor's replies just give the
impression of an utter twat desperately hanging on to a
fanbase who are losing their angst and losing their
interest. Ooooh, mysterious, cultivate the impression of a
taciturn, misunderstood genius a bit longer why don't you,
no fucker believes it. I hope.

That's probably a bit harsh, by all means recommend me some
NIN so i can give it a fair trial. Or just indulge my
prejudices and throw the shit-smeared CD out of the window.

"That's probably a bit harsh"

It's not harsh, its just misconcieved, by your own admition
you haven't heard a single thing by NIN so i'm not really
sure how you can comment on his music.

Your comment about his lyrics carries a little weight but I
don't know too many rock or industrial bands with amazing
lyrics. Then again I don't think the lyrics are that bad, I
think this has been blown all out of proportion on this
messageboard.

A few reccomended tracks, ones I think will pleasently
surprise you based on your comments:

Leaving Hope
Adrift and At Peace
A Warm Place
The Mark Has Been Made
Gone, Still

Those are all instrumentals, which i think Trent is best at,
he actualy did an amazing track for a David Lynch film,
can't remember what its called though.

Driver Down is the name of the track for the Lynch film Lost
Highway if you want to check that out too, there is also a
great remix of David Bowie's 'I'm Deranged'.

Aye, i just seem to have cultivated a rather unpleasant
image of Tha Nailz from... well, pretty much everything i've
ever heard about them. I'll check those tracks out though,
ta. Let no man say that my ears are not open-minded.

P.S. I like Lost Highway quite a lot.

Trent Reznor produced the soundtrack and did a couple of
tracks for it, I wish he would do more soundtrack stuff, I
have a feeling he'll be doing more of this once he's
finnished with NIN.

well, I think mr. Shope made a rather good observation - if
you didn't start listening to NIN when you were 16 years old
And Very Angry, you probably won't like it later on.

offline Asche XL on 2005-02-13 18:06 [#01497508]

On the contrary, I think the "angry teen" generalization
that's oft made with NIN is fading with time. I think his
music is progressing and loosing more of the
"mindless-dress-in-all-black-i-hate-people" fans. I don't
see many people with NIN shirts on any more, the name is
brought up more now in a social setting. But, then again,
who cares who listens to what, if it sounds good to you,
then that's all that matters.

last year, i submitted a question asking what he thought of
Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ". i wonder if he
appreciated it. i believe he was raised protestant...

you only have to read his last lyrics to see the
generalisation is still rightfully in place.

i've read comments on that site a while ago from Trent
talking about how long NIN will carry on, he said something
about how it can only go on so long, that he's changing as a
person and that NIN may no longer be relevant to him
sometime and he would do other projects, i'm hoping
soundtracks or instrumental albums :)

It will be interesting to see how this album turns out, I
don't think there will be many NIN albums after this, if
any.
