The Cell is handsome

Hopefully the chip in the PS3 can run at the full 4.6ghz,
not dumbed down. We'll see, that would be quite splendid.
And rumors are that it will have 512MB of XDR RAM, which is
more than enough. 256 would be good but 512 would be fab.
Consoles don't need much RAM to pump out some great
results.

PS2- 300mhz (roughly)
PS3- 4600-ish mhz (hopefully)

PS2- 32MB RAM
PS3- 512MB of FAST RAM

It won't have a hard drive like the XBox, but I don't think
that will matter really. It should have Blu-Ray and HD-DVD
support (yay!). And it will be backwards compatible with the
PS2 and probably the PS1 (yay!). It will also have a built
in toaster (yay!).

E3 is a few months away, I can't wait to see the Next-Box
and the Nintendo Revolution. The specs in those cases are
still mysterious. I wonder what crazy, nonsensical schemes
Nintendoh is planning this time.

I'm so ready for the next gen. NextBox may be on the way in
time for Christmas, I'm crossing my fingers. Hopefully
Perfect Dark 0 won't be too far behind. Everything on these
systems will be running in 1080i/720p high res widescreen,
it's going to be bodacious.

Which system are you going with next gen?

Perfect Dark 0?

*ejaculates over screen*

Nice specs there. Now let me understand this blu-ray? I have
heard of it only once. Could you give me a refresher?

If the Nextbox is out by Christmas (smart move) then that is
the road that this household will be going. Although i have
heard that the next GTA installment will debut with PS3
according to an interview with Dan Houser.

Nintendo can suck my cock and let me finish in their face.
Pointless worthless system. Eternal Darkness is the only
saving grace that the previous system had. (great game)

They better buckle down if they think they are going to do
any good.

``The Cell cores have media-specific instructions baked
in...``

So are the new playstations cooked in an oven or something?

Blu-ray discs can are somewhere in the area of
25-50GB. That's more GB than you can shake a stick at.

Have you played Resident Evil 4? I agree that Gamecube was
pretty much a collosal failure compared to PS2 and even
Xbox, but it's got some good shit! RE4 is one of the best
games ever. The new Zelda looks smoking, too. It disapointed
me, but I'm still happy with it. It's very nichey.

I'm going with all three because I am a major nerd. I might
wait a while on the Next Box, because typically, launch
libraries are a bit weak. It doesn't look like Halo 3 is
going to around for a while (but they're working on it as we
speak... a Bungee insider spilled some beans on IGN and Halo
3 sounds hawt).

It's going to be interesting with Microsoft getting out of
the gates early. They're sacrificing the ONLY advantage they
had on the PS2 (hardware power) to get a headstart on Sony.
It didn't work for Sega with the Dreamcast but MS is in a
better position than Sega was.

I think it goe without saying the Nintendo is going to
finish last once again. But I really hope they can back
their shit up. They're being bold and I hope they show
something stir fry fucking nuts at E3. Like, the controller
is a squirtgun or something.

more. I just finished #2 Which i must add is a great game
besides all the bad things i heard. Idiot fan boys

Imperial College "boffins" are working on holographic discs
that could apparently hold around 1TB of data, "ready
between 2010 and 2015."

Furious linkage

I just tried to find the thread but those boards are way too
busy... it's buried in rubble by now.

Points I remember-

1- the biggest- they're trying to incorporate some kind of
real-time strategy into it. You can tell your troops what to
do, command vehicles, set up pincers/flanks, etc. But
they're trying to do it without compromising the FPS nature
of the game. You don't NEED to ''play general'', but you
can, with a pop-up menu. It sounds very ambitious, but we'll
see what happens. Bungee started out Halo as a
real-time-strategy game, so this makes perfect sense. Bungee
started out making great RTS games on the PC.

2- a speedy human vehicle to counter the ghost, probably a
motorcycle/four wheeler or something

3- play as Hunters, Brutes, Elites, etc in multi-player

4- Master Chief sprinting like the guys from Killzone (this
I love... after playing Killzone, I REALLY miss the sprint
function when I play other FPS')

5- better matchmaking, just general improvements on the
onlilne portion. Typical.

6- fully destructible environments ala Red Faction but taken
to the next level. For this, Bungee is really pushing for
M-Soft to put a hard drive on the Next Box. That way, the
tree you destroyed 2 hours ago will still be destroyed when
you go back to that spot.

7- water combat, some speedboat, gunboats, large carriers,
etc.

Naturally, you have to question what the guy said, but he
sounded credible, everything sounds realistic and makes
sense, and he was correct about some Halo 2 points a year or
two ago.

Remember the flame thrower from halo 1 and the grav gun that
was in 1 and 2? Why arent these included and do you think
they will be in 3 or is that just a pipe dream?

I hope 3 is big as fuck and super long. I also hope for more
old school multiplayer to return. I loved ratrace with
rockets and same with prisoner

Those sounds like nice options. I would like to see the HD
utilized.

I just hope to god the PS3 has a new controller... at least
one with a better d-pad and longer handles... I hate the PS2
controller.

I'm doubting the HD-DVD support myself seeing as Sony are
really pushing Blu-Ray right now...

My strategy since the 32 bit era has been to go with
whatever system square is backing the most.

Yeah this isn't going to be just a game console. A lot of
companies are really teaming up to throw a huge punch with
this; they may have even invested enough to partially ruin
themselves if it's not successful. Who knows what
applications they have planned? But yeah it's pretty sick.

I dont like blowing my load over prelim specs. Gameplay is
the alpha and omega of gaming. If the games suck (sup xbox?)
then I dont want to touch the fucking system. I say bring
out a 16 bit system so that companies can slash their game
budgets and focus on novel game design concepts.

Fuck the industry right now.

Of course gameplay wins over power, that's why the wimpy
little PS2 is number one and the Xbox is not. It's a given
that Sony will deliver the software, their empire is BUILT
on superior game libraries (just like they're delivering
Devil May Cry and Gran Turismo later this month, HOT
TAMALES!!!!). It's nice that they'll finally have a beast of
a machine to deliver all those games to.

Me personally, I think gaming is better than ever. 2004 blew
away any other year, the list of AAA games was astounding. I
don't mind that most of them were sequels... all that does
is provide inventive games like MGS3 and Half Life 2 some
more history, context, and story.

The early 90s was fun, but some people forget just how much
horrible licensed bullshit was shoved down our throats back
then. They act like what EA is doing now is a NEW concept.

PS3 for sure. I can't wait. I missed out on the PS2 as I was
more involved in my PC but I'm definetely going to get the
PS3 when it comes out.
