I just watched it for the second time. Does anyone know
what Bill Murray whipsers in Scarletts ear at the end?

I loved it.. and I know what ever he whispered helped glue a
lot of loose ends for them but I'm just curious what he
said, it sounds almost audible.

does it matter? i think it was pretty much irrelevant + it
would kinda be better without that.

I thought it cheapened the ending a little bit. Just a good
thing the ending sequence is an absolutely beautiful
combination of sight and sound.

"You actually can't read his lips in that scene because
he is hugging her and her hair is covering his mouth when he
whispers. I've watched the scene repeatedly with the sound
turned up full volume and cant decipher what is being said.
"

WITH THE SOUND FULL VOLUME, GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG FULL VOLUME!

i watched it first time alone and a few beers in me, and in
pitch black

i swear if i would have watched it with another human or in
a theatre or during daytime, i would probably really hate
this movie.

thankfully, i got it right the first time :)

i watched it in the cinema twice and both times were great.
its really cool when everyone laughs together. like the part
where he falls of the treadmill, everyone was cracking up.

Not to be blunt, but I think it remains and was intended to
be a mystery.

offline cygnus from nowhere and everyplace on 2005-02-05 01:56 [#01488105]

the cinematic quality of that scene is that you do not know
what he said, and that you can accept the mystery or you can
make up your own thing.

doing that in films makes things seem bigger. its like a
wrapped present. a persons imagination is so big, and the
brain goes into this search mode when it doesn't know
something, but the space, the "placeholder" for the data has
been created. just no data.

creating that 'placeholder' in the brain is a tactic used
commonly. sometimes it happens in nature.

i sometimes call the process hardlocking. the data
retrieving hardlocks because there is no data, and the
brain immediately goes into search for that data, but
doesn't know where to search for it. in most cases the
client will synthesize its own data and be satisfied - or
have a mild level of satisfaction because it knows that it
is not the native data suited for the placeholder because it
was synthesized and is native-user

know what im sayin?

native-client* i mean

OR A SIMPLE WAY OF EXPLAINING IT IS THAT IT IS AN "OPEN
ENDING" :)

Sophia Coppola, the writer, knows what Murray said"

Yeah.

Anyway, in an interview, she (soffia/writerdirector) stated
it's impossible to know what's said and it's up to the
viewers interpretation.

they were sharing a moment apart from the audience. they
bonded with eachother, not with us!

i thought it was a great ending. perfect way to show how
close they had become as friends. and in a movie about
friendship based on nothing but shared lonlieness, it
places them alone together, isolated from everyone including
the audience. great ending!

like "Just tell him" (her husband) and "I'll call you when I
land".
