what do you think about them?

ok, i imagine everyone here dislikes this kind of music, but
what do you think of the way this bands are selected? is
this affecting kids in a bad way (participate and you can
become a star)?

personally i don't think it's affecting bad on anyone except
the silly people..music industry needs their money and why
not create a band in this way if it proves that it's a very
smart thing to do regarding the sales. im sure every parent
can explain to their kid what's the deal here.

there's this big debate about it here in our country atm,
because of the eurovision song selection, although it's been
going on for quite a while now. there's an 'artist' who is
bashing all these bands and the way they make music, their
look, their lyrics..no need to mention his music sucks just
the same.

With no regard to the music, I think it's actually a good
way for people to get a foot in the door, so to speak. In
the long run this method is going to wear off. The audience
can only take so many new pop-idols pr year (with the usual
runner-ups getting a contract and such). The guy who won
norwegian pop-idol last year didn't cut the cheese, but the
girl who came second did actually do a nifty single. And it
shows that it's not usually the winner who takes the trophy
in the end.

it's just business.
if kids come to the audition, they are either already
affected or they are business people and don't care about
music.

well, the discussion went in this direction; "music industry
is polluting our childrens minds with music without any
values, they present these stars even vulgar, often in
sexual poses, and it just doesn't have anything to do with
music and it isn't educational..".

i say if the parent are stupid enought to buy stuff like
that for their kids then blame it on the parents not the
music industry.

images are everywhere - on tv, where you can occasionally
glance, on ads on the streets - no need to buy, it will find
you.

i agree with tolstoyed, vlari and matvey's comments... it's
just business - that's the nature of the music industry. if
anything, it's actually a bit more honest than the way they
usually do things because they aren't even pretending that
these people earned their jobs with hard work. they are
upfront with the fact that it's a contest - a lottery, and
the winner is selected based on marketability. that's how
it has always worked in commercial music, so it's a
completely logical and efficient thing to have these shows.

as for the question about morality, answers i'm sure will
vary from person to person... in my opinion, the question
is irrelevant as long as the state doesn't get involved.
the corporations' job is to make money* and the parents' job
is to decide what their kids look at.

* yes, corporations should be regulated so they don't
violate people's rights and they must not be permitted to
destroy the environment and monopolize, etc. but everyone
deserves complete freedom of speech, and part of that is
allowing people to say things you don't agree with morally,
even the giant evil corporations.
