I borrowed the 12-disc extended edition of this film, and I must say that I thought it was fantastic... apart from the music being too loud and unsubtle. The documentaries and galleries ETC. redefine DVD special features, and take them to a sublime level. I was spellbound, I must say. |

I watched all three extended editions back to back on sunday. It took just a little under 12 hours. i was totally fucking exhausted and absolutely sick of looking at the television by about 10:00pm, but at least i can say i've done it now. |

Funnily enough it was Sunday when I watched the first two, and monday morning when I watched the 3rd. I've been making my way through the 'Appendices' since then. I'm onto appendix 4. |

The music definetly worked better in the cinema, it was a little overblown for home viewing in my opinion. |

i dont have the set so i dont know but - what the heck can they put onto 12 disks?! how can they not run out of things to put on? |

The thing is, the documentaries are LONGER than the films... there are 4 discs per film - two are the film, two the appendices. And the documentaries are like 5.5 hours long over the two Appendix discs per film... it's insane. |

Aha! You were right, you DID post -- only in the wrong thread! :D They are so long because they are so in-depth. If you want to know how to make films, from pre-production to post-production (including sound effects and foley etc!) then watch the documentaries! |
