So I listened to it and I thought "So this doesn't sound
like Richard Devine" and then I thought "So I didn't think
it was very good anyway". So. So. So

So

Richard Devine: Having a billion euros worth of equipment
and making a fucking shit-sounding racket doesn't make you
iconoclastic or clever,it's far too late in the 21st centiry
for coming up with that bollocks, it makes you:
unimaginative
puerile
adolescent
a nob
and just shut up

A fool following in your folly = fuck off.

messing around with dsp is not uncool just because it has
been done before, nor is it bad because you lack the
technical skill to learn about it

if people didnt spend time mixing together elements of the
past nothing new would ever come about

that said, I think this is a good experiment iznie, I am
interested to hear you incorporate some of these elements
into your more coherent stylings

Doesn't sound like Devine. The production isn't glassy
enough.

yeah I know. I can't come near the quality if his
production. but I was more trying to mimick his beat
programming and stuff.

Its way to fast. Sounds like your playing old school atari
fast paced. Pew Pew Blam Boom. Die Space Invaders. Lol.

Level 1 Complete. High Score: Cnt-Lckr 300000

haha, well I'll take that as a compliment because I like old
school atari music :) . although I wasn't trying to make it
sound like that.

here's part of a unreleased track he played in a liveset.
i was more or less trying to make it sound like that.

Closer maybe. Programming doesn't change up enough really
like devines stuff - could be denser. I think you overuse
the bass drum, maybe it should be tightened up a bit. The
reverb is a bit much. :)

Nobody has said it's shit because it's been done 1 million
times before, in this thread. It's not shit just as an
amateur guitarist playing the 12 bar blues is fun, if
they're your mates.

offline stilaktive from a place on 2005-01-31 18:26 [#01483651]

basically richard runs everything through normal stuff,
makes it cool, then fucks it up completely, like jimmy or
even shadetek. get a final image, then fuck with it
completely.

Your methodology is wrong. Before you try to emulate the
sound think about how his tracks are structured...It's not
about fast panning and drum rolls.

Yeah... that didn't have the energy or feel of a richard
devine song. But it could be a servicable song if you worked
on it, and made it longer than 27 seconds.

He's not triggering samples. I think those drums are
synthesized. They have a squashy sound, too. He's doing a
lot of spectral processing, also. Those are the differences
I hear.

my drums are all synthesized to btw. I made a couple of
rythmical (sp?) patches in absynth 3.0, recorded those and
rearranged them. but yeah he does allot spectral processing
too.

I do this just for practice. to get better with creating,
processing and rearranging sounds. my "real" music is
TOTTALY different.

here's the stuff I usually make.
