:D:D:D

anyway if it is just a matter of base material changing from
vynil to some other it's not a problem, it probably will be
even better if they care to do research to find something
working well for audio.

It's whether they will invest in researching an alternative
to vinyl seeing as it only accounts for such a small market
share. I mean the cost of research would probably be more
than the gross national product of a country like fremany.

not that it'd be ideological. but music on vinyl simply
sounds FAR better. it sucks how dependent you are on the
interests of other people.

It would cost that much to research it would end up costing
£40 for a two track EP.

vinyl... cant they just synthesize a new polymer to use?

offline JAroen from the pineal gland on 2005-01-29 13:16 [#01480900]

apparantly vinyl in records consists of PVC (drain pipe
stuff) and 2 common polymers. dont think vinyl will die
because refineries stop producing the stuff from the
article

I'm afraid to say that it's infinitesimally more important
that we stop fucking up the planet than continue producing
vinyl.

Yeah because vinyl is a bigger environmental problem than
the millions of CD's produced for marketing purposes(ISP's
etc.) that get thrown out daily.

I didn't say it was a bigger problem..... I just said that
if halting its production produces any environmental benefit
at all, then it's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

And you're right about the ridiculous quantity of CDs being
produced..... it's disgusting. As is the mobile phone
mountain that the west produces each year. Hopefully some of
the new EU laws (e.g. the WEEE directive) will have some
kind of positive impact, but I'm not so sure........

I don't care, I will be dead before the really destructive
effects start to take place.
