i could try to explain myself, but i'd probably get bits
wrong and there is quite a lot to know. your best bet is to
read this interview, parts:

and
three

i'm guessing this one is from 3rd quarter of 90's.

also, this interview in the wire last year is very informative about his
more recent stuff. that should keep you satisfied for a
while.
