OMG I'M BRILLIANT!

the last album to be released on Warp Records was
catalogued WARP127.

Confield is WARP128.

and now, WARP180, Untitled is announced.

THIS IS NO COINCIDENCE.

Buffalo! if they don't come, i'm trekkin' out down to NY. i
MUST see them.

hmm.. yeah.. they all start with "WARP" and then have
a 3 digit number attached. That's strange.. probably an
omen. I've got it! Warp is the name of the label and the
number is the number of the release! Damn, I can't believe I
thought of that. It just suddenly clicked together in my
mind. We should work together more often; consider
this puzzle solved.

no, before you get cocky, THINK

Confield was given a catalogue number out of succession. it
jumped up to 128.

now 2 years later, the catalogue has legitimately reached
128, and THEN the new AE comes out.

HELLO?

Oh.. I get it now. I was just implying I didn't understand
in an intended humorous way. I'm not sure how they assign
numbers. Maybe they were given that number after the
others, but then only released it before them, ie. maybe
it's just the way the label gives the numbers instead of
autechre leaving behind a subtle puzzle. Or it is a subtle
puzzle meaning autechre will wait until 181 to release their
next album or something, or warp, for whatever reason
exclusively screws up the sequence of autechre's numbers.

i don't think it's a puzzle.

back when Confield was released, i noticed that they jumped
ahead to 128. my theory was that it's sorta of a commentary
from Warp that the record was ahead of its time. the music
itself is a proof for that theory.

note also that they saved WARP70 for Boards Of Canada's
"Twoism" to honour their label, music70.

they play with their catalogue numbers, and i think that's
cool.

so noting that the new AE LP is coming out NOW, at this
point in the catalogue (where WARP128 belongs), means 2
things: 1) they definitely know what they're doing with the
numbers, its not just coincidence that they made Confield
128. and 2) following this theory would imply that the NEW
album, catalogued WARP180, is EVEN FURTHER ahead of its time
than Confield was/is.

thus spoke magicant.

maybe its a suggestion of what order the LPs should be
listened to. "Draft 7.30" would make much more sense if it
was BETWEEN "lp5" and "Confield".

offline magicant from Canada on 2005-01-22 01:02 [#01471871]

so yeah, maybe it is a puzzle.

(sorry for saying this in 3 posts)

Well, if they gave autechre 128 (on purpose to release
autechre's next album when the sequential 128 arrives)...
that means even if autechre wanted to release an album in
the meantime, they'd just have to wait for other people to
release albums until 128 finally arrived.
Either that, or they planned it together, knowing they
wouldn't release another album in the meantime. Or, if they
did it would just be given a sequential number.

well the simplest explanation is most often the correct
one.

in 2001, Ae probably suggested that they give them WARP128
cuz it would be like, from the future or something.

so during 2004 sometime, they're working on a new record,
they decide to play with that a little more. so they talk
about it with Warp, and hey, Warp points out "hey guys,
WARP128, the one we gave to you guys, is actually coming
legitimately soon!" so Ae and Warp decided it would be cool
if they waited for the time when Confield SHOULD'VE been
released (after WARP127) and THEN release the new AE - but
they couldn't stop there. they had to fuck it up even more,
so they said "LOL lets just give it WARP180 LOL" then Ae
said "WTF LOL OK"

i recall a thread in which everybody guessed the title of
the next album, and they all had 8's in them. maybe Ae saw
that thread and laughed, and by honouring it, they made the
catalogue number the next number up that has an 8 in it!!!

offline magicant from Canada on 2005-01-22 01:17 [#01471877]

and they had to do better than just 138 or 148. 180!!!!

i think that sometime during mid-April, skies will be grey
all around the world and aliens will come down and terrorize
the humans. <--that is the new Ae. no music involved.
