I need a few hints, pointers and fun facts, I think.

I can line up two songs that have a small difference in how
much faster/slower they are, but as the difference
increases, I get more and more trouble... are there any
tricks if the difference is so large that the pitch won't
reach far enough for them to match?

I have trouble finding out if an acapella match with the
beat i'm matching it with sometimes...

also, just general pointers for mixing and stuff.. dj-ish
stuff.. you know... or maybe you don't, but then you can
just post nonsense instead...

I find it best to just avoid tracks that are a few percent
off. But with larger differences I hit the 45rpm (or 33)
button and cue up. ;)

yes, I do...

or.. halfway, since I haven't been able to afford the second
turntable yet (got a tech 1210 mk2, and want another one..
but that means I restrict the pitch I can use on the comp to
+/- 8%).

A container of lighter fuel and a lighter, a steel bucket
and a mask to avoid inhaling toxic fumes.

hehe.. yeah, but that doesn't always work.. it becomes like
"smurfehits," and then you're suddenly "the funny dj!"

I have no intentions of dj'ing out (yet), though, so this is
just for my own amusement (and
vorspiel/preparty-entertainment).

You could hack your turnable's pitch and get somthing around
+/-16 out of it, but considering the newness of your SL I
wouldn't recommend it just yet. There are some DIY articles
around the net somewhere for you to read. It's quite easy, I
tried it once while I was calibrating the pitch of my 2nd
hand SL1200.

yeah i mean dont mess with stuff that's too far apart like
vlari said. . . but you could find yourself a little bpm
program on the internets to figure out how far off you are
for the stuff that's really far off. a little tapper that
you click your mouse too and it'll calculate bpm for you if
you're stuck. works like a charm for me.

doesn´t that fuck up the music real bad?

Well, I didn't have the setting long enough to hear any
difference, actually I set it back to normal just minutes
after testing it. Didn't want to wreck my turntable.

I guess with a +/-16 setting you are prone to get a less
accurate or stablespeed on the platter, considering it's not
meant to go that far. The article I read about this hack
said that many goa-trance djs did this, but they are so
drugged up that they can't be trusted :)

yeah, I don't think I'll mess with the hardware.. however,
the ARE techs with 16% pitch.. the mk5g or whatever... I've
been thinking of getting that, but that means more saving,
and on a student-loan with rent to pay, it's harder than on
civil-duty money without rent to pay...

any other tips? if I want to mix stuff.. (drums from one
song, bass/lead from another?)? my mixer has only got 2eq's
(vestax pmc 05 pro), so I guess it won't be too easy, but
maybe there are some tricks?
