Ochre - A Midsummer Nice Dream

Ochre's new album is on boomkat. Check out the samples good
stuff. As boomkat says, nothing overly challenging, but nice
nonetheless. "Yugen" could be of Astrobotnia 4 IMO.

I dont like how they worded that.

This isn’t exactly groundbreaking stuff, you feel
you’ve been here countless times before..

Makes me not want to listen to it even though i like his
music.

"yugen" reminds me more of a chris clark thing.

Actually I have mixed the tracks from this release with the
Analords. Boomkat are always using such big words for the
stuff they sell, so I was kinda surprised how they described
Ochres stuff.

Ochre's album is great electronica > very skillful and
melodic....

he has a more experimental piece coming out on Audiobulb's
forthcoming "Intricate Maximals" compilation... we have
extracted the dark side of Ochre :)

A darkside of Ochre? This will be worth hearing

Yes, whilst I agree it's neither groundbreaking nor really
unique, it's certainly not a boring "rehash" of existing
ideas.

I think the IDM community is generally pretty obseced with
referencing things to other tracks/artists. Rock music and
pop is a lot worse for derivation IMO.

Yeah i completely agree with you. Once an artist does
something people are right there with their ideas of what it
sounds like.

I even did it in this thread :p

He has his own style/sound.

Maybe Boomkat really doesn't want you to listen because they
love you after all.

it's rare for boomkat to say anything at all negative about
something they have in stock

I fondly remember their bit about the last Funkstorung album.

when I looked that one up, I also stumbled across
this one, which is even worse!

it helps ofcourse that I think Funkstorung is quite shit. :P

AHhahahaha! How bizarre.

I would think if you are selling a product that you want to
say what is positive. LOL

They're not as bad as hard to find records,

Some examples taken from gash records:

"Scissor sisters release their fifth and final single from
their self-titled album. 'filthy/gorgeous' is a live
favourite and the perfect new year's eve record with its
thumping bass line at the beginning that reminds you of a
70s blaxploitation film while meshing shears' strong vocals
with co-vocalist ana matronic to great effect"

"With plays from everyone worth thier salt in the trance
world this latest release from rank-1 is easily the best
thing since airwave"

"Huuuge electronic anthem from ethan thats been played on
pete tongs show nearly 6 times!!!!"

it did surprise me, but I also think it shows a lot of
balls. :)

Ochre is great.

"Yugen" and "Revolver" in particular are great trax from
this album.

wow, i'm slow, but holy shit this album is great. i'm
probably going to be obsessed with it for some time; it
appears to have enough suttle detail to be quite
relistenable and appreciated, yet still quite instantly
likable.

ochre is nice. great beats, good drumming. but i totally
dislike his melodies, they make me feel lost, they have no
clear direction...

yeah i was going to say it's a bit odd for boomkat to not
say anything nice (aka lie) about something they're trying
to sell

it was good, then i narrowed it down to 3 tracks, then i
realised there was 1 good song on there, which was released
beforehand, sorry chris. but your sound is nice, good luck
to you.

i think this album is quite nice, but comparing to other
toytronic releases (abfahrt hinwil, gimmik) its a bit weak.
it could make a much better EP with 4-5 tracks...

offline timtom on 2005-07-01 03:22 [#01649606]

and re Boomkat - i've noticed that usually they praise the
stuff they distribute/release (type, cco, morr) or something
they can't go against (warp, rephlex, etc). smaller labels
which they don't distribute they can put down in most
cases...

I rather enjoy the album. Some really fucking beautiful
stuff.
He's playing in Leeds in December. You should all come
along. It'll be beautiful.

I think he's more drawing attention to the fact that the
words "Autechre" and "ochre" are phonetically very, very
similar.

well, that's true, but if there was any doubt, ochre is
actually a real word. Can't quite say the same thing for
"Autechre"
