I guess i have a question regarding this. This is the first
time i have encountered a lossless file. When this is burned
and listened to on a proper stereo is the quality really
that noticeable?

I only have two small computer speakers and i am all out of
blank CDs. So this is why i ask.

Have any of you that encountered this have any opinions or
things to add?

Thanks

I have never encountered these files in my life before.

I can definately tell the difference between FLAC and 128kbs
MP3.

I even did a test where I used CDEX to rip mp3 and flac
versions of tracks from the same CDs, then reburn them and
try to tell a difference.

There was a difference. The FLAC copy sounded sharper.

i'm not sure about the quality after burning, but I'm sure
it'll sound fine. they're pretty hefty in size, which tells
me that it's chock full of sound info.

also:
i downloaded these flac versions and compared to the 192kb
versions.

the flac are quieter, but more pure.
the 192 versions had quite a bit of turntable noise in
them.

so i up'ed the volume of the flac versions with plugins and
made 320kb mp3s.

see ya on slsk.

If you've only got little PC speakers you probably can't
tell the difference between 256/320 mp3 and flac, but though
a hifi I certainly can. If you can't tell the difference
between mp3 and wav (lossless pcm) you won't be able to tell
any difference between mp3 and flac, since flac is exactly
the quality of wav

Still waiting for my copy of analord, and trying hard not to
d/l, although it's oh so tempting...

I've only downloaded one FLAC file in my life, of a hafler
trio track that i forget the name of. You really could tell
the difference between flac and 192 quality though,
especially on headphones. If the mp3 quality was higher i
wouldn't be so sure, i have to really fucking listen for mp3
artifacts above 256.

My computer speakers are decent at best. When i make music i
usually burn a large numbers of CD's so i can hear the sound
in different settings and locations.

I was unable to burn this as i wasted a huge number of CD's
on the music awt and myself just recently finished.

I did a thread about flac files yesterday, oyu might find
answers there too above all regarding the burning them into
cdr

Flac is brilliant. They're the only acceptable format in
the live bootleg trading community, as well as shn.

to cdr

what software would you recommend to convert flac to
hi-quality mp3s?

A codec for dbPoweramp (which comes highly
recommended by the way). Codecs a-plenty for pretty much
everything, in fact.

Yes, you really can tell the difference, I have them in
lossless .ape format, and there's so much more depth and
definition, made me realize it just might be worth all the
money after all.. Ah, if only I could afford it right now.

and the analog/vinyl version would be even better than the
digital version as well!

no 22KHz cut off, dithering or aliasing on those badboys! :)
