Awesome, awesome album. Compare and contrast with "smiley
smile" too.

Kekeke! Seriously I hate this new Smile. Still a great album
though, it always was.

Brem- Get ''Surf's Up'', it has maybe my favorite Beach Boys
song on it, Disney Girls. And one of the sweetest album
covers ever.

He loves his mum and so the album has an additional
sentimental attachment for him...that's a nice thing.

that's part of it, but I think it's moreso that his mum
comes from a more traditional classical background, being a
classical pianist and piano-teacher.

I'm going to guess that his mum's whole family was murdered
on a Beach by some Boys, and this gift symbolises her
finally letting go and moving on.

it just sounds like the beach boys to me,

so much for 'too progressive to be released at the time'

perhaps brian wilson went to the same school of markketing
and releasing as BoC.

anyway, the albums ok, but i don't think it's amaaaazing.

37 years for that. what a disappointment.

someone had to say it.

oh, i don't mean it's progressive. hell no! i just really
like this.

it's not you're usual "california girls" type pop though, is
it? :)

I think it was more that brian wilson was under the
influence of too many drugs and too much paranoid
perfectionism. Not a cheap marketing ploy.

why is good vibrations on there? it's exactly the same as
the old one.

what is so special about them anyway? their song's are kinda
silly.

plus the other beach boys didn't like what Brian Wilson was
writing... or the methods he was using to make the music
(e.g. dressing up as firemen)

smile was an original album, that Brian Wilson never
finished - due to acid induced paranoia (basically). Demos
and rough versions of tracks were released on smiley smile,
wild honey and friends - i think. Good Vibrations was one of
the only songs that they completely finished.

their songs are structured very well and the layering of
instruments and voices is near perfect.

and now and then something weird happens in the music - god
is in the details.

production is slick as hell, but it fits with their/his
music.

I don't feel it was ahead of it's time, the beauty of it to
me is that a mindblowing 60's album was released in 2004.
The production is fucking fantastic, it sounds like the
Beach Boys album that was never made; that is more than I
could have asked for.
