and it represents, just for me maybe, an
almighty fuck you to all the lazy genre whores who
attempted
to bore to death electronic music over the last few years.
Please put down your laptops

^^ agree with this, also. this release just screams: "oh, is
this what you were trying to do?"

ask old dirty archrival, then his answer is "THIS IS ALREADY
A CLASSIC AFX RELEASE"!!!

im loving it 5 out 5.

And im happy that Phob also likes it (he is worth a good
aphex release after all the worh he put in).

This 2005 seems to be lovely! :)

aphex pwns us consistently.

whether it's by releasing the musical equivalent of wafting
a fart in our faces (smojphace), or strokes of brilliance
like this.

fenix funk is like a mix of windowlicker and vordhosbn to
me. it needs a cunningham viddy.

they need to work together again. wait, wasn't there suppose
to be a cunningham dvd coming out feat. aphex and
squarepusher music?

Im a little confused about the piano bit in xmd5a. People
are saying it blends into synths. Or morphs? It just sounds
like synths fade in on top of the piano. Im just wondering
if Im hearing the same thing.

offline bogala from NYC (United States) on 2005-01-16 17:37 [#01462610]
Points: 5125 Status: Regular

my favorite bit of fenix is the pads. I really like the
dissonance and their melody. Holds the track together.

It's great, spooky and funky. And i'm looking forward to

yeah i agree on that piano bit. i also think that it doesn't
much belong into this song

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2005-01-16 20:09 [#01462814]

i on the other hand think that piano bit is one of the
highlights of xmd5a :-)

you guys ever heard Les Baxter. Look for felicia, my love. A
wonder track. I hear Rich loves Baxter. The piano sounds
similar to that 50's grandiose style.

So what is the proper speed on this? Sounds fine at 33 rpm,
but sounds fins at 45 also. Which is it? The Discog says
45. I'm confused and want to enjoy this properly damnit.

offline OK on 2005-01-16 23:07 [#01462927]

i guess for you the oldschool sounding of it is a plus..

not for me i prefer refined sounds ala drukqs

the refined (computer) sounds give me a headache. Im loving
the analogue stuff.

i like this release a lot. one of my favs from rdj. i prefer
xmd5a although im not too keen on the piano (however i think
it is essential, acting as a kind of glue throughout). i
think both tracks get progressively better. i dislike the
start of fenix funk cordially but love from about 1.30 in.
overall: 4/5; i love the analog and cant wait for more.
