Gasol -- who was also the fans' choice as December's best rookie -- earned a whopping 98 percent of the more than 22,000 online votes for his performances in January. Gasol led all Rookies in scoring (20.7 ppg), rebounds (9.5 rpg), blocks (2.87 bpg) and minutes (40.5) in 15 games for the Grizzlies.Forward, Memphis Grizzlies

oh.. hmm.. well there are many good players on bad teams and many bad players that average 0 MPG on good teams
the lower a team is ranked at the end of the season, the higher they are in the following year's draft.. if one team is in absolute last place, they pretty much have their choice of any draft candidate.. that team is given the first pick of the draft.. memphis had a pretty early pick in the draft during gasol's rookie year, so they were able to get him.. and so a good player was drafted onto a bad team, in hopes that he would lead the team into a far more prosperous future
