Midi Box?

Hi Folks,

Just wondering if anyone knows if the following bit of
hardware exists, or if the functionality is a part of
something else:

A small, fairly portable box, that just has midi in/out on
it and some source of power. I don't want a sequencer as
such on there, or even much control. All I'd like, is the
ability to save several different midi files to it and then
select which one to play from the device.

The idea would be, you could write midis on the PC, or save
patterns from drum machines/synths and layer them on the PC,
then save them to this box and play them back, without the
need to use a PC just to control hardware.

Any links/info on this sort of thing much appreciated. Ta.

Hey dude. I think what you want does exist. LAZY_TITLE
these Im sure would do the job but are probably too
expensive for what you want. There must be a more simple,
straightforward type available somewhere

£300

"...Despite this, the M88 is currently the lowest priced
fully integrated MIDI file player by far."

:-(

Ho hum, looks like I'll be sticking with the PC for a bit
yet. Thanks for the suggestion though. I suppose if I see
one second hand or on ebay cheaply it might be worthwhile.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking- as the PC would just be
playing the pre-recorded midis/switching between them,
Latency wouldn't be much of an issue. A £100 second hand
laptop with a gameport would be perfectly adequate.

Man Im sure I remember seeing something that was pretty much
just a midi in/out box with a button for selecting the file.
Ah well.

Yeah well i guess you could use pretty much anything to play
midi files, even an atari or msdos pc shizzle so im sure you
can find something for cheap

The main thing I want is something portable and small, not
so much for gigging, but just because my room is stuffed to
the gills now and it looks like I won't be getting any more
PCs in there (and I don't want more fan noise). :)

I've just DLed Alien Disko Systems 3000. If I like that,
I'll probably get a cheap old laptop with a gameport and
hook that up to my gear.
