I'm going to the first session of a bartending course in about one hour from now. Upon completion of the course I will have a certificate which lets me bartend nearly anywhere. haha they give certificates for anything these days. You'll get a certificate to certify you have received your certificate also. |

I've heard it's pretty painful in the US (maybe brokephones took the same shit?); at least in NYC you have to have hojillions (200-300, I believe) of drink mixtures memorized. |

i started work in a bar at the end of last year. it took me about 10 mins to figure everything out.....i dont see how you would need a certificate. its hardly rocket science. |

i also took a course and received a certificate a few years ago. never got me a job, though. the cert didn't count for much, everyone wanted experience. |

Hey, today is the last day of my bartending course. It's taught by some old guy who is shockingly similar to Gunnery Sgt. Hartman from "Full Metal Jacket". The classes consist of listening to him yell-talk about his 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry. I honestly haven't learned much at all. So yeah, certification doesnt go that far towards getting a job in bartending. Even if certification was a big factor in getting a job behind the bar, this course didn't teach me that much at all. |
