Why are the charts full of bullcrap? Popular music is trash, popular opinions are just plain uninformed and wrong, popular films are normally shite (films like 2Fast2Furious bought by the peasant underclass of UK culture-the chavs-in particular) and fuckshit music is bought in droves by idiots who can't appreciate any measure of complexity.

People on the whole favour shitty backward cliched simplisitc art. I find it helarious how the best selling books here are biographies of twats like Posh or Becks, or other crappy works of "literature" centered around popularist celebrity-based shit.

I reckon people who like the crap that hits the high end of the charts in all areas of art should be killed, as they are responisble for the decline in society and culture as a whole. They are like animals lapping up the latest "trend" in a hope to look cool and in an attempt to appeal to authority, and in times like these where intelligent culture is dissappearing I think we need desperate measures.

  /rant over.
  Btw, this isn't *completely* serious.

Btw, don't jump on me for this, it was in a reaction to people listening to rap music REALLY loud in my room and telling me my music sucks and "makes no sense."

I actually enjoy loads of popular stuff, but I'm not going to admit that in a rant, am I?

True. Loads of great films have been popular, loads of great books have been popular, and occasionally good music is popular imo.

But there's this "section" of society in the UK at least-which is hard to put my finger on-which buys shit in droves.

people don't look past what's put in front of them. most people don't care about music and only listent to it in their car, on the way home from work. they go home, microwave some food, and watch tv. the microwaves shrink their penis's, and they cycle continues.

The pop charts have always been pretty horrible. Even when the Beatles were big, they routinely got beat out by crap like Herp Albert and Engelburt Humperdinck. We just don't remember the bad stuff.

Yes, there's a big difference between something you like being (or more often, becoming) popular, and liking something because it's popular and that's all you've seen/heard/read.

I disagree on the games front though. Games are the one format where the most popular games seem to be the best. The Halo 2s, Goldeneye (1!)s and GTA 3s of this world will always outsell FIFA/Golf games, thankfully.

At least a lot of new pop stuff tries to be a little progressive in production terms. Even if the song is shit sometimes the beats are pretty interesting... its good that stuff like the neptunes seem to be the 'current sound' in pop.

I have definitive Facts proving that if any piece of music sells more than one (1) copy, it is well shit.

Engelburt's not too bad! But still, I wouldn't want him representing me or any other group of listeners, artistically. '"Release Me'' beat out Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever on the charts, but nobody remembers that. It just shows that pop has always been a dodgy enterprise, it's nothing new.
