I'd love to answer but I'm assuming people who aren't on your cool guys list aren't allowed to help, so I'll give you this excellent post instead.

ok, maybe I was a bit harsh. I'm going through menopauze and you have to understand I can act a bit too impulsive.
I've re-added you to my "cool guys list" :)))))))

well according to the all powerfull Mike P from planet-µ, you should send a 'finished' product. So basically send out a full album with artwork.

basic rules about demo's:
- put your name + contact info on the cd-r itself (you can bother with a nice cover but chances are they'll just about lose it immediately)
- do not present an album - put your best track first, etc.
I would say put about 3 or 4 songs on. if it interests the listener, they'll ask for more.
Jason Forrest a.k.a. Donna Summer says to send out as many demo's as possible. he says they get passed around between labels, as in: "this might be something for your label".

i'd say take your 3 favorite, different sounding songs.
then again, don't listen to me.

Remember that you are sending in a DEMO, not a finished sequenced album, ie. you need to put your absolute best standout track first, then follow with the other tracks which best display the sort of music that you make and that we may be most interested in. Don’t have a 10 minute wobbly synth intro (for example) on the first track, as most peoples interest tends to waver.....
Include as many tracks as you want, but put the best ones first – this is the single most important factor in getting your music listened to.
If we like what we hear, then you will be contacted – if only to say “please send us more”. We do not acknowledge receipt of demos, return them, nor offer any criticisms - we are busy enough as it is!
Thanks for reading!
