so, after a long time i'm slowly getting board by fruity. even the version number 5 cannot satsify me, and i even think that my creativity is slowly fading on it...
so it's time to change my environment... what can you tell me about the one u use ? maye you can give me some more ideas...
does anybody of you got experiences in logic ?? help much appreciated!

logic's strictly mac based, I only use it at college and have to say I'm not too impressed with it - lots of other people are though, i dunno - it's probabbly good for out+out electronic music, but I'm slowly moving away from that sort of stuff.
Reason's pretty good to use as a big Vst-instrument, as you can rewire it into cubase/logic/etc... Reason's own sequencer capabilities are shockingly bad.

I use Acid pro mostly... record, sequence/resequence + drums.. sometimes, when I need something to be COMPLETELY synched, I synth with Reason, otherwise I record with my synth...

Go with cubase. Although mine just crapped out on me. From fruity, it will only take you a couple days to accostom to it, and fruityloops is modeled after it, so the learning curve shouldn't be that steep. I wouldn't suggest going to reason, but you might want to use it as you would another vst plug.

Renoise is a pretty awesome tracker, although I haven't learned how to use it yet. Cubase is my constant workhorse... I hear the new 3.0 version is pretty swanky.
If you're looking to move away from the conventional environment perhaps you could look into something like MAX/MSP.

Max/MSP is hard to learn, but when you have, you can do anything you want with it.

buzz is surprisingly good and overwhelmingly versatile if you care to get to know it. modular based, sequencer, hundreds of softsynths/drummachines/trackers/effects, directx&vst-compatible etc..
and it's fast. and it's legally free, which is amazing.

My issue with buzz is it sounds 100x worse than reason. Well, at least 2x.
Unless you have a kickass soundcard, or you know some secret I don't...

huh? what do you mean? soundquality? preset sounds? in reason it is probably easier to get ok sounds from presets or so, but it doesn't have the versatility i would like.
it all comes from the synths or samples you use, and how. you just have to use the right soundsources... and tweak it properly..
i agree that some % of the presets and some whole machines sound just horrible. just need to find the right machines and plugins and a little tweak in teh params do surprisingly much. anyway i used mostly sounds/samples i recorded myself.

i can highly recommend cubase. been working with it for years now (actually, i use nuendo now, but that's basically cubase with a boobjob...) and i'm very happy with it.

i hear sometimes owners of cubase look down on fruityloopers - but i don't care. FL is simple and i had no problem with switching to it from trackers. without looking into HELP you can quickly master the main functions and start making a track. making music - which is more important than what kind of tool you exactly use
and 7.1 mixing - sounds nice, but will Devine make it by himself or with an engineer ? ZASTANAWIAM SIE :)

live is very intuetive , and with some good vsts like reaktor absynth you are sorted really. i just got max/msp myself but it is pretty damn hard to get the ball rolling with it... i certainly would not want it as my sole prog

I don't like the way I can't set different velocities for each note in a chord easily, nor is there a "reverse" button in the "alter notes" tab, but other than that it does everything I want.
Acid_Polic3:
What's the VST implementation like in Live 4? I always thought it was a bit weak in previous versions (only used 1-2), I don't like the way it ran fx as part of it's own skin, if you know what I mean.

oh its great now - the big addition is vstis/midi which makes a world of difference , i can do whole tracks all in live no problems really , perhaps mastering and so forth needs to be done in a full on sequencer like logic , but for actually writing i think its unbeatable , lining up stacks of synth lines, samples and beats is great fun as all it takes is one click to put the next set in motion... so basically you only have your musical abilities to blame now if a track isnt working... a good and bad thing!
also rock solid timing imo... i really love it , though i've only used cubase , reason , floops and live , i really think it is by far the best out of all of those.
the one problem for me has been reaktor sadly, it seems to have problems with it[ niether progs are cracked..] , which leads to quite regular crashes , though this seems to be windows specific from what my friends say.. so i'm switching to mac , but that is a different kettle of fish.
i think provided you come to the table with some good vsts , specifically synths[only built in one is a pretty lacking sampler], it is fantastic.
try the demo i guess, i can't see how it could fail to impress anyone.
also - octamed seems like a good program , the fact that ceephax and vsnares use it , is er quite interesting... good for lo fi fucked up breaks n beats. i think exidy tours is soaked with it.
