I shouldn't just single out blues. all kinds of music styles
'borrow' progressions from other songs and artists and put
some different singing or other little hook-type parts on
top. I am not trying to defend Nickleback here, because I do
really think they suck for more obvious reasons.

on google, you might find some more info.

it's funny in this context though. here is a quote from Chad
Kroeger of Nickel Back taken from the bio section of the
official Nickelback website:

We've pushed things further in every way possible. We're
very proud of this album. Fans of real rock music are in
for a surprise... Instead of being about my own life, its
about experiences everyone can relate to and hopefully learn
something from.

the bio also states, ironically,

The Long Road marks the first time in Nickelback's
carreer that the band has crafted and entire album without
any outside influence."
