Ok, so the year is winding down... what's everyone's picks
for the best single or singles of the year? I guess by this
I really mean songs that were played on tv and radio a
lot...

my personal fav this year was Through the Wire by Kanye
West... damn I still can listen to that song over and
over... I love it!

i dont want to big up nu-hiphop cuase i hate it usually due
to "gangst/thug life" references, but the new song by
EMINEM, Toy Soldiers has very nice percusion sets. Has
anyone heard it yet?

I liked that Strokes track with the weird guitar sound and
uber cool Tron video.

I don't know the name of the song but it goes, "I hate every
ape I see, from chimpan A to chimpan Z.."

It was on Simpsons.

i dunno if i could pick a definitive favourite off the top
of my head... but i've got to hear Drop it Like it's Hot by
Snoop Dogg a few times recently, and i have to say that it
is the coolest beat i've heard the neptunes do in a long
fuckin' time... i was pretty thoroughly convinced that they
were finished but apparently they've discovered how sexy
minimalism can be when its done right... first of all that
tympani action is fuckin' amazin, and the brush textures.
and that whistly "snoop" sound is also way fuckin' cool
(plus you only hear it once or twice so it's special, you
know?)... and also the very sparing use of the keyboard
loop... like a quick (but much more effective) flash of
flesh to keep it all on our minds... they were hinting at
all of this with Get Your Eagle On, but the problem was that
anytime Nelly opens his mouth you want to punch him in the
teeth, so it was impossible to appreciate the subtleties
(sp?) that they had fashioned underneath...

Just a shame about the rapping, although Snoop does nearly
redeem himself.

snoop's a shadow of his formerself... but it's enjoyable if
you just don't pay to close attention to what he's actually
saying... kind of like watching a movie without your
glasses... or something to that effect...

Hehe. I think it's a really catchy song. The rapping and the
overdone hiss (IMO) are the only flaws.
