Right, I am at a not unique stage in that I have 40 seconds of a track I have complted. However the difference this time is that I am looking forward to continuing with it, but herein lies the problem.
I have the percussive sounds I want to use sorted out (hit samples etc.), I have the sythns I want to use sorted out, I have an idea of how I want the main part of the track to sound. The problem I have is when I try to tidy it up...introduce a beginning...work on an ending it is changing the vibe of the track.
How do the rest of you do it?

I don't think I could do that...I need shit to turn out the way I feel it. I know it sounds stupid but the stuff I do is a part of what I am at that particular time. I don't have ANY theoretical music knowledge, training or anything, so everthing I do is just based on what I am feeling.
HeLp!

I usually switch between melody and rythm so that I'm always working on something fresh. You could try sequencing the skeleton of your song and then fleshing it out afterwards.

I usually get the vibe down, and then once I have it, I just work in linear time, adding, retracting things as I go

I hve tried the skeleton thing before it doesn't work. I am shit with melodies because I am a drum head, so I try to fit the melody around the pecussion. Nothing works. I should just jack the whole shit in.

connect, with wires (audio and data), as many of your own orifices to as many of the computer's inputs as physically possible.
whatever you feel, the computer feels whatever the computer feels, you feel
or just copy someone else. *shrugs*

I'll try that wires thing now. Should be good for a laugh if nothing else.

Keep embellishing your drums endlessly then. Get some variations, breakdowns, buildups, whatever works. Fill your screen with content. :)

It's a melody intro...I have stopped moaning and just tried to get on with it. It's hard though :(

I usally save the intro until last really, just try to ignore it and get on with another part of the track.
I usually have some inspiration by that time.

next time before you post a thread like this :
1.if you're shit with melodies get a mate who is not and work with him [or not]
2.apply brokephones' advice [or not] 3.give your track some time - then after a while you'll know by yourself what's missing
4.get independent and do whatever you like [or not] 5.good luck

all i do is try whatever feels right for the track and once i get bored (or feels like it not working) walk away from it for a while and try again
not the best advice but it seems to work for me
