Weed vs Music

Everything is so much more.... alive?
Certain songs beat you down and never let you come up for
air, while others soothe you and treat you right.

What works for you, brother or sister?

i like weed :>

but songs are what they are, weed doesn't change that for
me.

I highly believe that drugs can heighten your perception but
i think that the music influences the effect on you rather
than the other way round. If you don't like something when
you are on drugs it probably means you dn't like it much.

weed heighten perception of sounds and so a lot of boring
song are listenable for me.
i never make decision about music when i'm high.

i'd rather listen to music sober than smoke weed and just
sit there.
best stop the vs. battle and mix them together for sweet
bliss ;)

it doesn't sound better, you listen differently - your
disposition changes.

perhaps smoking weed doesn't even "heighten your
perception", but dulls it down in a way, making most music
sound better or more interesting.

concentrated on the music when I was high

When I listen to autechre's latest releases I *have* to go
into a weed-state-of-listening to enjoy it, otherwise it's
just noise. I think their music forces you to listen
carefully whether you are on weed or not.

Why wouldn't I be serious? Don't you think you need to
really concentrate on autechre's music to get the most out
of it? And wouldn't weed help in doing that? And wouldn't
you agree that you don't really need it as long as you put
som effort into it and try to concentrate "manually"?

i dont see how you'd have to be high on weed to understand
autechre. perhaps vladislav delay or swod, but not autechre
they're not THAT difficult to understand.

well, "I *have* to go into a weed-state-of-listening to
enjoy it, otherwise it's just noise" part is hilarious...how
could weed possibly affect on music that much?? the
perception is a bit different, yes, but not that different.
especially with autechre, i don't get what's there to
understand, and how could being stoned make you 'understand'
it any better...it's just music, not even too
complicated/complex one.

better get into some radiohead!

I was mostly just exxagarating to make a point. Of course it
is not pure noise if you're not lsitening to it actively.
And of course you don't have to be on weed to enjoy
autechre, but if something helps you calm down and helps you
to listen carefully to music, be it weed or anything else,
then it follows that it helps you enjoy that music more than
if you had just been doing something else while listening to
it.

I might also add that I've never listened to autechre on
weed.

for some people, they have to go into an altered
state of mind in order to appriciate something with
abstract structures like autechre. some people are just
wired
that way already. i'm not a weed fan personally, but
it does make alot of people open up to different sounds.

i dont smoke weed now, but i used to do it a lot, i listened
to mostly nin and nirvana and some other bands, but not
xltronic music, at that time in my life, and it definetly
changed my perception while under the influence, but it was
neither for better or worse, only different. i cant stands
the mary jane now, its terrible, i would rather do acid.

a fatty and chillin out to some radiohead or autechre or
boc. three best stoner bands ever. o yeah, and if youre high
when you listen to the beginning of pixies - where is my
mind? when high, you automatically die.

offline Sido Dyas from a computer on 2004-12-29 11:54 [#01439302]

It is probably cause most people can only concentrate on one
thing at a time when stoned and if that thing is music the
music might become really great or if you are having a
conversation with someone that conversation becomes really
great. Meanwhile you might be doing potholes on your t shirt
or pants without even realising haha! I am like that.
While you are drunk you have a more divided attention , but
the same behaviour is there more or less depending on level
of drunkness.

I hate it when someone is really stoned and is trying to
tell a story or explain something while doing something
else at the same time like rolling another spliff . It can
be really entertaining but also very annoying if you are not
also stoned.

This is basic knowledge for most of you but i felt the need
for ....i don't know . I don't like this "enlightement"
hightened sences shit associated to ganja. Cause in my mind
it makes you a dumbass kinda simillar to people with d.a.m.p
or autistic conditions in some ways.
Not that it is anything wrong with that =)
