 the rum diary
Directed by Benicio Del Toro, who also acts, along with Josh Hartnett and Nick Nolte. Great novel, but I am worried about this film !

I liked that book. I thought fear and loathing was good in both book and movie... I have moderate expectations.

i'm really looking forward to this film. i loved fear and loathing, and i really enjoy thompson's books. rum diaries is one of the few i haven't yet read.

It is nothing like his other books. It is more like Graham Greene (without the thriller aspect!) than it is like that zany ex-python, one Terence Vance Gilliam !

I donno... set one or two other films about and by HST and didn't think they had actors who could capture the brilliance and insanity of him. Johnny Depp seems to do it better than anybody else...

This was a great book. Much more emotional than anything else I have read by him. My expectations are still moderate. If its good, then I will be happy, if it sucks, then I will be dissapointed, but I won't expect it automatically to suck, cause then I will find reasons for it sucking and I will be angry at it. All that wasted energy could be better placed in appropriate places. Like hating cylob.

That's the nub! I did not find the book wacky in a J. Depp way. I like Depp and I like his acting - I just hope he pitches it agreeably !

Still much better than bill murray's attempt.
Its the actors interpretation of that person that we are watching. Thats what makes actors artists.
