 When I click on an MP3 in Internet Explorer on this  machine, Internet Explorer attempts to open the file within  the browser instead of giving me the option to save. I have  to resort to right clicking and choosing 'save target as' -  this lessens my productivity.

you have to change some options in quicktime. I forget which  options exactly, and I'm not on my usual computer, but this  is what worked for me when I had the same problem.
