Quite experimental.

And read movie reviews at .rottentomatoes from now on
please.

the reason the rating is right in the middle is probably
because either you totally love his films, or you totally
hate them.

it's hard to take a middle-of-the-road opinion on them
because they're so odd.

watching a 13 year old kid wearing a rabbit hat drown a cat
in a 50 gallon drum will leave an impression on you.

Ah yes, the swimming pool scene in Gummo..

Better than Julien Donkey Boy's swimming pool scene, but not
as good as Kids' swimming pool scene.

Excellent movie!

I loved Gummo also.

But Julien Donkey Boy is better imo.

Either love it, or hate it.
For the most part.

I believe I give Gummo 8/10.

Gummo gets 10/10
Julien Donkey Boy gets 6/10 (I don't like
dogma/psuedo-dogma)

"Like Gummo was getting an NC-17 for nihilism!... [The
Motion Picture Association of America] said: 'Take any scene
on its own and it would be an R, but strung together, the
message is so antisocial, so nihilistic, that this is an
NC-17 film."

nihilism... hmm. i never really thought of it like that,
but i suppose that really does sum up gummo pretty well.

it had such a lack of opinionatedness that they almost gave
it an NC-17..

hardcore!

it feels very nihilistic - eyehategod is the perfect choice
for music in that film.

ps- sleep fucking rules as well.

i haven't really watched any films like this one before, the
strangest film i've seen is Eraserhead, which i love.

well, that's actually pretty close.

Julian Donkey Boy is a lot like what would've happened if
David Lynch was raised by gypsies in Alabama, and then
directed his first movie during his first PCP high.

think it's offline now. I like julien except for the opening
ten minutes.

i like harmony corine, but i wont watch this film if it
includes a cat being drowned.

my plea to movie producers: please kill only uncute animals.
preferably insects or fish.

The cats being killed are actually important to the
atmosphere of the film...

When he first visited the town that this movie was filmed
at, he met some residents whose jobs were to hunt down cats
and sell them to a chinese restaurant in a nearby town.
Nobody cared, because the town was overrun by stray cats.
The thing that desturbed the cencors wasn't the nihilism, it
was that that movie is a real slice of america nobody talks
about.

The cat that gets drowned in the begining, when you see him
holding it under water it looks like a stuffed cat toy. I
don't like to see cats killed in films either, it makes me
sad, but it's fine in Gummo. The saddest cat death in film
is when they kill that one in Midnight Express.

my god, what a stange film!

even though its meant to be gritty and realistic its one of
the most disturbingly beautiful films i've ever seen... if
that makes any sense, i'm sure it does to those who have
watched it.
